As we head into Thanksgiving, many of us think about how to teach children the value of gratitude. The truth is, gratitude doesn’t start with big lessons — it starts with small moments of empathy.
And empathy can be taught.
It grows when children share, take turns, help one another, and play together. These simple interactions form the foundation of social-emotional learning.
One of the most effective ways to support this is through intentional design. When we create spaces that invite collaboration — cozy corners, shared activity zones, open-ended play areas — we help children naturally build skills like kindness, communication, and understanding.
