As the use of ed tech continues to grow, K–12 schools are building out tech-centric spaces where students can develop new skills for the future.

Before 2016, finding the tech-ed shop at Waunakee High School was tricky. With it located behind a metal door, unless a student was enrolled in a class there, they’d have

⭐️ Thank you, TDS! ⭐️ Today, our Waunakee Innovation Center received a generous donation from TDS to support student learning in our lab. Their donation helped purchase a Go Pro Camera Kit, extra batteries, and a mounting accessory kit. This will allow our students and staff to document project builds with better quality video and images. We can mount it in our equipment as well as go mobile with the camera more easily. What a blast! Last night we hosted community members (and a couple former Innovation Center students) for our laser cut candle box workshop. Participants learned about the laser and the Innovation Center project while staining and assembling their projects. Thank you for making our first post COVID workshop a success. Please visit the WCSD Community Ed Website or our own Innovation Center Website for details about future events.

Jeff Willauer, Technology Education teacher, and Mark Felten, LMTC Assistant, install new WHS LMTC table dividers fabricated across the hall in the Innovation Center.

The plastic dividers were cut and etched using the laser cutter while the brackets were designed by a student in the Big Idea Tech Ed course and later 3D printed.

Simply Amazing....That's all I have for this project. Jack just finished his final project for Big IDEA and it is mind blowing. Jack set out to create a home made turntable to spin up some of his favorite vinyl records. From start to finish everything about this project is beyond belief. He used the tools in our Woods Lab to create the wooden plinth. Jack then laser engraved artwork onto the plinth using our Universal Laser Systems ULS 6.60. The turntable and other machining was done using our Forest Scientific Corporation CNC router and the 3D printed parts were accomplished on his home Ultimaker Cura 3D printer. The internals are controlled by Arduino and some basic electronic components. You can check out the rest of his build here. Great job Jack!

Some one of the cool projects we have worked on. Paul Busse designed the clamping system for the custom laser engraved Acrylic panels. Clamps were printed on our MakerBot replicator printers and the panels were laser engraved on our Universal Laser Systems ULS 6.60 laser as part of our "Redesign Project" where students solve everyday projects using our Innovation Center Equipment.
