I am writing to share a sad update regarding Kiwi, the bird we featured in yesterday’s post. Unfortunately, Kiwi passed away this afternoon.

While it is deeply difficult to lose an animal in our care, we find comfort in knowing that she is no longer suffering. We sincerely appreciate your support and the concern you have shown for her wellbeing.

Thank you for your continued support. Let's work together to make a difference.

My emotions are high with this one.

Yesterday, we received a walk-in surrender that underscores the urgent need for systemic change. We took in a bird, approximately one year old, that arrived in a state of severe emaciation and lethargy. The previous owners had her since December and never sought veterinary care for the animal. They believed her condition was simply a minor vitamin deficiency. Upon rushing her to our veterinary clinic, she was diagnosed with a severe case of pneumonia and significant fluid in her lungs. While she is currently receiving medication, her prognosis is uncertain, and we are not sure if she will make it.

This situation is a direct result of a system that allows for the mass breeding and uninformed sale of animals without ensuring proper education or oversight. While our intent is not to shame individuals for a lack of knowledge, it is clear that we must do better as a society to protect these vulnerable creatures. The suffering this bird has endured was entirely preventable.

We are calling for a serious evaluation of policies regarding animal sales and breeding to prioritize animal welfare over commercial interests. We must implement stricter regulations to prevent such cases of neglect and medical crisis from occurring in the future.

A little behind the scenes with Toby and Wanda in the background from their vet visit last week 😂

I also have 4 new phrases to add to his board that I heard while we were there...

Where did she go?

What's she doing?

Toby, what did you do?

Do you want water?

It has come to our notice that another entity is using our original photographs and copying our social media posts verbatim to represent them as their own. Most distressingly, they have even replicated our "beware of scams" advisory post.

It is deeply disappointing that we must remain so vigilant against these types of deceptive practices. We are committed to protecting our community and ensuring that our supporters are not misled by fraudulent accounts. We are currently monitoring our followers and comments closely to mitigate the impact of this theft.

What's Tilly's favorite time of day?

BREAKFAST, LUNCH AND DINNER! 😂

Tilly is an approximately 2+ year old Red-Footed Tortoise. Tilly was under a year old when she came to us and our vet guessed that it was male. Tilly came in underweight and underdeveloped due to being on a wrong diet. Now that Tilly has been eating well and starting to grow, our vet believes Tilly is female! As adults, Red-Footed Tortoises can get to be 30+lbs. Tilly will need a home that will take care of her growing needs!

Tilly's adoption fee is $275.

If you're interested in adopting Tilly, visit our website and fill out an adoption application! We are located in Waukesha, WI and do not ship. Applicants must live within 100 miles.

How cute are Valentino and Armani?! We've been working hard on getting them used to people and they have shown some progress! They're not used to being handled but they're getting used to having people close to them!

Valentino and Armani are approximately 2-year-old DNA-sexed male Lovebirds. They are a bonded pair and must go together. They have been thoroughly vet checked. The boys love hopping around her cage, playing with toys and chattering together.

Valentino and Armani's adoption fee is $200.

If you are interested in adoption, please go to www.centerforanimalrehab.org, read our Adoption Policies, and fill out the Adoption Application. Once your application is approved, we will set up a meet and greet with you/your family.

We are located in Waukesha, WI and do not ship. All adopters must live within a 100 mile radius. We do not adopt birds to households that have the opposite gender birds.

Remember that little budgie Cassie found in Bayview last week? Well, after spending her 5 day stray hold at MADACC and nobody claiming her, she has made it to CARE! There was another stray female budgie that came in a few days before her so we took her too!

They're doing well and really getting along. They're not available for adoption yet, but keep your eyes out if you're interested!
