Tuesday was a beautiful day at Cantigny Park in Wheaton, IL for the first LIR trip of the year. Cantigny Park is the former estate of Colonel Robert McCormick, editor of the Chicago Tribune. Master Gardeners led us through the beautiful gardens followed by lunch and docent led tours of Colonel McCormick's mansion. Following the mansion tour, members were on their own to further enjoy the gardens or tour the First Division Museum. Colonel McCormick led part of the First Division at the Battle of Cantigny in France during WWI and renamed the estate (formerly Red Oaks Farm) Cantigny in honor of this battle.

It seems we no sooner start the spring semester classes than we ask the instructors to begin preparations for the fall semester! We sent a current 2019 Fall Blank Proposal Form to all potential instructors. All proposals for fall classes are due in the LIR office by APRIL 15, 2019. Think about your life experiences, hobbies and talents you can share with our members. You do not need to be a past teacher or public speaker to present a course. We recently had a member ask if someone would be willing to hold a class to "Learn the Game of Football". What fun that course could be! Let us know if you would be interested in teaching the fundamentals of football to a group of our members.
Watch for future flyers in the mail for the following upcoming 2019 events:
April 4 Majestic Theater "Dumbo"
April 26 Eleanor Roosevelt First Lady of the World
April 30 Baraboo Circus World Museum

41 LIR members enjoyed a trip to Chicago for a tour of 4 ethnic neighborhoods. Our day started with an authentic Greek meal served family style at the Greek Islands Restaurant in Greektown. Also in Greektown was a tour of St. Basil's Greek Orthodox Church. Our step-on guide continued our tour through Little Italy, Pilsen and Chinatown.
