Waukee Northwest High School sophomore Theo Lamb was one of just 35 students from across the country selected for the 2026 Public Safety Cadets National Leadership Academy! During the weeklong event, Theo attended workshops, lectures, physical training, and field trips around Washington, D.C.

The opening of Maple Grove Elementary’s new playground this summer meant a little more for students Emalia and Ian.

Years before construction ever began, Emalia noticed her classmate Ian couldn’t play on the existing playground equipment. She advocated for building a more inclusive playground throughout her years at Maple Grove.

The brand-new playground, opened this summer, features a more inclusive design and more equipment designed with all students in mind.
