There’s something special about being part of The Nutcracker.

From those first rehearsals and learning the choreography, to costumes, friendships, backstage excitement and finally stepping onto the sta dancer becomes part of something much bigger than a single performance.

For young dancers, it’s a chance to grow in confidence, develop their skills and experience what it feels like to be part of a full theatrical production.

And for many of our dancers, the friendships and memories made along the way are every bit as important as the moment the curtain rises. ❤️

🩰 Confidence Starts Before Audition Day

Auditions can feel exciting — and sometimes a little daunting. That’s exactly why our Nutcracker Workshops are such a valuable part of the experience.

During the workshops, dancers have the opportunity to learn and practice pieces from The Nutcracker that they may later be asked to perform at auditions.

It gives dancers time to become familiar with the choreography, work on the details and walk into audition day feeling more comfortable and confident.

Whether this is your dancer’s first IYDT audition or they’ve performed with us before, the workshops are a wonderful way to prepare for what’s ahead.

The excitement is building at Illinois Youth Dance Theatre as we get closer to one of our favorite holiday traditions — The Nutcracker!

🩰 A Little Preparation Goes a Long Way 🩰

With Nutcracker auditions on the horizon, our upcoming workshops are a wonderful opportunity for dancers to get back into the studio, build confidence, and begin preparing for what’s ahead.

During the workshops, dancers will have the opportunity to learn various pieces from The Nutcracker — including material they may later be asked to perform during the audition process.

It’s a great way to become familiar with the choreography, enjoy some time dancing with fellow performers, and head into auditions feeling a little more prepared and confident.
