Alane Academy is a developmental school which focuses on every child’s learning style, individual needs and interests. We believe that every child has a unique way of learning and in order to foster growth in academics the teacher must use motivational teaching methods that address the student’s individual preference for learning. Acade
mically, we encourage each student to explore, take risks, and grow independently. We also promote shared thinking with their peers to communicate, make decisions, and problem solve. A natural integration of science, social studies, technology, and art into the core subject areas, provides a creative approach to teaching and learning. Our goal is to give each student the confidence they need to think for themselves, while continuing to advance inside the classroom and out in to their world. Active Body
We believe that classrooms should be a place for our children to explore, discover, and experience learning through interaction with their teachers, their hands, their eyes, their ears, and even their taste buds. Our students are challenged to participate at every learning level and we offer them a hands-on approach to gaining knowledge. We believe that the classroom experience is far more than a lecture session and the purpose of our learning environment is to enhance critical thinking skills with a total learning experience that involves non-traditional forms of education through the use of technology, manipulatives, and student centered instructional approaches. We also recognize the significance of active bodies. We will instill the importance of good nutrition, hygiene, exercise, and rest. Students will participate in units of study as well as daily physical activities that promote a healthy well-being. We will strive to bring out each child’s inner creativity. In addition to planned art projects and lessons, which will be integrated into the curriculum, we will encourage children to choose various methods of expressing themselves as well as their thoughts. “An artist paints, dances, draws, writes, designs, or acts at the expanding edge of consciousness. Kind Heart
A kind heart is the underlying goal of all social and academic decisions at Alane Academy. We expect mutual respect between teachers, students, and parents. One of our goals is for students to accept and love themselves as well as others and to be aware of their strengths as well as their weaknesses. We put much emphasis on the learning atmosphere, because we strongly believe that before becoming an academic success, children must be completely comfortable in their environment where they aren’t afraid to take risks and make mistakes from which they will gain invaluable knowledge. At Alane Academy, students will be leaders… leaders of themselves. Students will take responsibility of their own actions and decisions. We will provide students with guiding principles to be successful students and individuals in our society. Throughout the day, students will live by the leadership skills presented in Dr. Stephen R.
