🫐 Who eats berries? More than you might think! 🫐

During Miin-giizis (Berry Moon), berries provide an important food source for many of the animals that share our forests and waterways. From Makwa (bear) and Waawaashkeshi (deer) to Waagosh (fox), Bineshiinh (songbirds), Gwiingos (chipmunks), and Mshiiken (turtle), berries help nourish wildlife throughout the summer.

As we gather berries, we are reminded that we are not the only ones who depend on the gifts of the land. Taking only what we need helps ensure there is enough for the animals and future generations.

Which of these Anishinaabemowin words did you already know? Let us know in the comments! 🫐
