Due to inclement weather, all athletic events scheduled for tomorrow, Saturday, Oct. 10, have either been canceled or our teams will not be participating.

Kickoff for tonight’s Oconee County High School football game at East Hall High School has been moved to 7 p.m.

No changes have been announced for tonight’s North Oconee High School football game at Madison County.

Today, Oct. 9, Oconee County Schools remembers Deputy David Gilstrap and honors his service to our community. Deputy Gilstrap was struck and killed by a car while directing traffic at Oconee County Primary School on this day in 2008.

Eighteen years later, we continue to remember his dedication to protecting our students, families, and staff. Please join us in keeping the Gilstrap family and the Oconee County Georgia Sheriff's Office in your thoughts today.

Shoutout to Malcom Bridge Middle and Oconee County Middle for outstanding seasons, too! All three OCS middle schools earned spots in the playoffs this year, giving us plenty to celebrate.

Congratulations to Oconee County High School’s Matthew Neal on being selected to State School Superintendent Richard Woods’ 2026–2027 Student Advisory Council! 🎉 Matthew is one of just 84 students selected from 1,427 applicants across Georgia.

Throughout the school year, Matthew will meet with Superintendent Woods and fellow council members to share student perspectives, discuss education issues, and provide feedback on how state policies affect students. Members will also complete service projects benefiting their schools and communities.

We’re proud to have Matthew represent OCS and help shape educational opportunities for students across Georgia!

We’re proud to announce that the OCS Board of Education and Superintendent Melissa Butler have earned the 2026 GSBA Exemplary Governance Team Recognition, the highest level of achievement in the Georgia School Boards Association’s Governance Team Recognition Program.

This honor recognizes their commitment to working together, strengthening our schools, and keeping student success at the center of their leadership.

It’s a big week for OCS athletics, with district matchups and championship competition on the schedule!

OCHS and NOHS go head-to-head in varsity softball and JV flag football tonight, followed by DCMS and MBMS meeting for the middle school football championship on Wednesday. The week closes with our middle school cross-country teams competing at the state championship on Saturday.
