U. G. Ander says, "Ready for some bat-tastic news? We are only 3 days away from the Oconee County Bat Festival!"

On October 12th, join us for endless family fun surrounding everyone’s favorite fall animal: bats. You can expect food, arts and crafts, educational walks, vendors, a costume contest, and even a bat walk to end the night (where you’ll meet the bats that live at the park)! We hope to see you for this free night of trivia and trick-or-treating. 🦇🦇🦇

Happy Friday! Today we want to spotlight Sawyer Mathis!

I’m Sawyer Mathis and I am 4th generation Georgia 4-H’er. I started my 4-H journey in 5th grade and have attended project achievement, participated in judging teams, camps, and conferences. Some of my favorite 4-H activities have been chicken and turkey grilling and the sh***un team. 4-H has taught me how to be a better leader, a better citizen and how to work hard to achieve my goals.

I started 4-H in the 7th grade following a school club meeting. It was there where I learned two of my friends, James Linder and Liam Garrett, were active members, and where I met my old agent, Mr. Dan. Here is another outstanding board member as we continue to celebrate National 4-H Week! Introducing Clarke Ashley.

I am Clarke Ashley and I am the Vice President for the Northeast District Junior Board of Directors. I got involved in 4-H a from a very young age because of my mom.
The first 4-H event I attended was Cloverbuds. Since then, I’ve competed in judging teams, DPA, and quiz bowls. By far my favorite thing is Dairy Quiz Bowl! I love being able to spend time with my friends, while also learning how to make the best better. Happy National 4-H Week🍀

U. G. Ander says, "Stay prepared for emergencies by building an emergency supply kit!"

An emergency supply kit can be as small as a backpack or as large as multiple duffel bags and packs. Include essentials such as non-perishable food, water, prescription medications, infant care items, pet food, a flashlight, batteries, chargers, backup batteries, maps, and sanitation items. Tailor each kit to an individual's or family’s needs. Pack enough food and water for several days, with about 1 gallon of water per person per day. Maintain the kit regularly by replacing expired items, keeping it in a cool, dry place, and re-evaluating your needs annually. A smaller, portable kit may be a good idea to keep in a vehicle for emergencies on the road.
