It seemed like a good time to talk about big rigs and blind spots. In the winter, snowy, icy conditions reduce everyone’s visibility and reaction time. When you drive in the “No Zones” around a semi, the driver may not see you—and winter makes that even riskier.
🚚 Blowing snow, spray from tires, and fogged-up mirrors can shrink a truck driver’s field of vision.
❄️ Semis already need extra room to stop. Add ice or packed snow, and their stopping distance can double or triple.
❄️ Drifts, stuck vehicles, plow ridges, or slick patches force all drivers to change lanes, sometimes suddenly. If you’re in a truck's blind spot, you might find yourself in the path of a 40-ton vehicle that didn’t know you were there.
🚚 Wind and whiteouts can push vehicles around. Semis can get hit by strong gusts or lose visibility in a whiteout. Drivers rely on mirrors even more—and if you’re in a No Zone, you’re not in their line of sight.
Stay safe, go slow, be seen.
