The Colby College Debate Society is a century-old organization founded on the principles of promoting free speech, knowledge, and developing rhetoric.

Life Changing 08/24/2017

Today is a sad day. Few who attended a meeting of the George E Murray debate society over the last three decades could escape without learning something from Mills. There was no topic that he was ever afraid to discuss and he pushed others to do the same. Even with age Mills could provide thorough analysis, a relevant text and a quote to address nearly any topic-- all off the top of his head. Yet despite this intellectual capacity Mills always saw anyone he spoke to as an equal and worthy of his time. He will be greatly missed by all of our members and alumni who were lucky enough to meet him.

Life Changing An English major who graduated from Colby Phi Beta Kappa, Mills earned master’s degrees at the University of Illinois and Harvard.
