I’m excited to share some more great news for Club Naha Karate-Do!
This past weekend, we held an intensive three-day black belt test, and I am proud to announce that the following students successfully passed:
🥋 David Sargent
🥋 Kale Holman
🥋 Mattais Smith
🥋 Patty Bearce
🥋 Sawyer Lane
These students earned their Provisional Black Belts.
In addition, 🥋 Karleigh Darling successfully earned her First-Degree Black Belt.
The test was designed to challenge the candidates both physically and mentally. Requirements included 40 laps in the large pool, a five-mile run, extensive karate training and skills evaluations, 21 rounds of sparring, and many additional challenges throughout the weekend.
Earning a black belt is not simply about learning techniques—it is about demonstrating perseverance, discipline, determination, and the ability to push forward when things become difficult. Every one of these students rose to the challenge and should be incredibly proud of their accomplishment.
Please join me in congratulating them on this significant milestone in their martial arts journey! 🥋👏🎉
Black Belt Test Potluck!
Sunday May 31 at 3pmish. If anyone would like to contribute, please bring an app, dish, or a drink! We will have food and treats in the dance room after the belt ceremony in the dojo.
If you have questions, please let me know!

What an incredible day at the Kicksusa Nationals Karate Championships in Gardiner, Maine! 🥋🏆
Club Naha Karate-Do is extremely proud of all of our students who stepped onto the competition floor today and gave their very best effort. The skill, determination, and spirit displayed throughout the day were outstanding.
We are especially proud to share that we had multiple Grand Championship wins today!
David earned the Under Black Belt Youth Kata/Weapons Grand Championship, and Shihan Craig earned the Adult Black Belt Kata/Weapons Grand Championship — a rare father-and-son Grand Champion achievement on the same day.
It was also fantastic to see so many of our students competing in Grand Championship divisions and performing at such a high level. The hard work being put in at the dojo is clearly showing on the tournament floor.
Throughout the day, there were several moments where students were feeling anxious or hesitant to compete for different reasons. What stood out most was the way the Club Naha Karate-Do family came together to support, encourage, and rally around these students. Because of that support, those students stepped onto the floor, faced their fears, and performed incredibly well—earning strong placements and showing real courage under pressure. Watching them push through nervousness and still succeed was truly inspiring.
A huge congratulations to all Club Naha Karate-Do competitors today — win or lose, every one of you represented the dojo with heart, discipline, and respect.
We are proud of every single one of you! 👊🔥
