One of the biggest fundraisers of the year for WPBS television has been given some assistance thanks to the hard work of BOCES students at the Bohlen Technical Center.

Students in the Building Projects program helped construct the Community Chests that will be auctioned off nightly by the station during their annual All Star Auction this spring.

The chests are often one of the big highlights of the auction in terms of popularity with viewers here in the North Country and in parts of Ontario, Canada. Each chest is given to a local organization that will decorate it and fill it with items. A different chest will be auctioned off each night. On average, the chests bring in $5,000 to the public television station each year.

The students dropped off the newly constructed chests on March 6. Their visit was documented by WPBS, which will utilize the footage during each night of the auction to publicly thank Building Projects for their help and support.

“BOCES has been wonderful to work with throughout this project,” says Peggy Brouty, Special Events Manager for WPBS. “The students did a wonderful job and everyone worked hard.”

The students who worked on the chests were happy to learn that their work was appreciated and just how much of an impact it would have.

“It’s good to hear something we did will have such a big impact on the community,” says Dakota Henderson, a senior from Watertown High School.

“This was a good project to do and it was nice to help the community,” says James Haughian, a senior from Watertown.

We are always working on the 4 C's (collaboration, communication, creativity and critical thinking! Check out this website I found that specifically work on the 4 C's! It is similar to an escape room but set up to be used in the classroom either with an actual kit or digitally! I am integrating them into my curriculum for next year.
