Play-Based Learning 💛
Ahem! *clears throat*
‼️‼️A Message from your provider Siera(Cece) ‼️‼️
One thing that I always want my daycare families to know is that because I’m a home-based, play-based program, you will not see “schoolwork” coming home in a folder — and that’s completely okay! 😊
We aren’t classroom-based, and learning here doesn’t always look like worksheets, workbooks, or sitting at a table completing an activity. Our learning happens through play, everyday routines, conversations, exploration, and hands-on experiences.
For exampleeee Dramatic play helps children develop social-emotional skills, communication, problem-solving, cooperation, and confidence.
Working with Playdough works those little hands and strengthens fine motor skills needed for things like writing, cutting, and using classroom tools.
Puzzles and building encourage problem-solving, concentration, spatial awareness, and early math skills.
Reading and conversations build vocabulary, comprehension, listening skills, and a love for learning.
Art and sensory activities encourage creativity, self-expression, coordination, and exploration.
Playing alongside and with friends teaches sharing, turn-taking, patience, conflict resolution, empathy, and how to communicate with others.
And even something as simple as cleaning up toys, washing hands, helping with snack, or putting on a coat provides opportunities to practice independence, following directions, sequencing, and responsibility. This is my main goal ! On top of making sure these babies are well taken care of, safe & happy!
So if you don’t see a worksheet coming home every day, please don’t mistake that for a lack of learning. ❤️
My focus isn’t just to prepare children to complete schoolwork. It’s to help prepare them to be confident, capable, independent little learners who are ready for the social, emotional, physical, and academic expectations of school. School can be very scary for children to just jump into & I wanna make sure they’re prepared 😉
There is SO much learning happening behind the scenes & it’s often disguised as PLAY. 🥰
Play is their work. Play is their learning. And play is an important part of preparing them for school and beyond. 🌱📚✨
That is it. That is all 🫶🏽
