Friends of the Family is hosting a Bike Drive for us this week!

We will be open our regular business hours - Monday and Wednesday from 3-6 PM - to take bicycle donations.

Bikes can also be brought to the Friends of the Family office at 1009 Peoples Square in Waterloo from 8AM-4PM Monday through Friday.

We plan to fix up and return 10 or more bikes to Friends of the Family for clients in need of transportation. We do take bikes in all conditions - rideable or not - because we can harvest parts and recycle unusable components.

Help us spread the word!

Thank you to Friends of the Family for the support and partnership!

We're not biased or anything, but bike nerds are the best kind of people!

🚴‍♂️ We had a blast hanging out with fellow community bike shops at the RAGBRAI Day 0 Expo this weekend!

If you want to support our mission of spreading bike love through grease, wrenching, and good vibes, donate to RAGBRAI Gives by the end of the week! We're trying to hit $60,000, which is $10,000 per Iowa bike shop - no big deal 😅.

Shoutout to our fearless board prez Mike Knapp, Tish from Chain Reaction in Cedar Rapids, and Val from We-Cycle in Ames!

We had a great group last week for Bike 101. These four, plus one more off camera, brought their enthusiasm and lots of questions as they learned the basics of bike maintenance and flat tire repair.

Interested in taking a class from us? Reach out via message or stop in to talk to Mark at the shop.

🚴 5 Days Until RAGBRAI! 🚴

I hope your bags are packed, because RAGBRAI is right around the corner!—but before the adventure begins, we want to recognize one last incredible Community Bike Shop that's helping make cycling accessible in its community.

🚲 Today's spotlight: Dubuque Bike Co-op

The Dubuque Bike Co-op gives donated bicycles a second life while teaching bike maintenance, building confidence, and making affordable transportation available to more people. Their volunteers prove that a simple bicycle can open doors to opportunity, connection, and independence.

Donate when you register at https://ragbrai.com/gives/

See you on the road!

🚴 6 Days Until RAGBRAI! 🚴

We're getting close! Before thousands of riders roll across Iowa, we're celebrating the organizations that help ensure more people have the opportunity to experience the freedom of riding a bicycle every day.

🚲 Today's spotlight: We-Cycle in Ames

We-Cycle believes a bicycle is more than transportation—it's a pathway to independence. Their volunteers refurbish donated bicycles and work to provide reliable transportation for people experiencing housing insecurity and others who need an affordable way to get where they're going.

To learn more about these community bike shops, check out the podcast, the official podcast of RAGBRAI! All of the CBS were featured on an entire episode this spring.

🚴 7 Days Until RAGBRAI! 🚴

One of the best parts of Iowa's Community Bike Shops is that every organization is powered by people who believe bicycles can change lives. Today we're highlighting one of the newest members of our statewide community.

🔧 Today's spotlight: Chain Reaction Bike Hub (Cedar Rapids)

Founded in 2023, Chain Reaction Bike Hub lives by the motto "Bikes for a Better Community." Volunteers refurbish donated bikes, teach repair skills, recycle usable parts, and create affordable transportation for people throughout the Cedar Rapids area.

As you get ready for RAGBRAI, remember that your registration—and your donation to RAGBRAI Gives—helps organizations like Chain Reaction Bike Hub continue this work all year long.

While you're at it, follow Chain Reaction Bike Hub and the other Community Bike Shops to see the impact they're making across Iowa.

And don't forget to visit us at the Community Bike Shops table during the Day 0 Expo in Onawa on July 18!
