Meet Allison Tjaden, our newest UNI-CUE tutor! We are excited for her to join our team and get to know our students.

Allison is a freshman at UNI majoring in English Teaching with a minor in both Literacy and Creative Writing. In her free time, she loves to read and write. Her favorite genres are fantasy, romance, and dystopian. She also enjoys crocheting and has for 3 years.

Meet Carson Knebel, our UNI-CUE ACT Prep Tutor! This is his first year working with our ACT students. Carson has done a wonderful job navigating both virtual and in-person sessions with high school students. We have received great feedback on how well Carson connects with students and provides quality tutoring.

Carson Knebel is majoring in Biomedical Sciences with a minor in Chemistry. (Pre-PA). He is in his 4th year of college, but this is his first year at UNI. He plans to be here at least one more year.

In his free time, he loves to watch sports. I’m also currently learning how to play the guitar. Another fun fact is that he is a former College baseball player! Check out that throw! He has played for NIACC, Eastern Michigan University, University of South Carolina Upstate, and Wartburg College.

Meet Hasin Karib, our new UNI-CUE Tutor! Hasin just started working with our K-12 students this semester. Hasin is already invested in building connections and helping students learn!

Hasin is a junior at UNI majoring in Computer Science. In his free time, he enjoys staying involved in campus activities and likes going bowling or playing billiards with friends. Fun fact is that Hasin is especially interested in using technology and data to solve real-world problems, and enjoys combining his technical interests with helping others learn.

Meet Allison Amman, one of our UNI-CUE Tutors! This is her first year working with our K-12 students. We appreciate how she quickly stepped into the role and connected with students.

Allison is in her second year at UNI studying Kinesiology, Pre- Occupational Therapy. She enjoys being able to develop relationships with the kids beyond their school work the most. In her free time, she loves to do anything active!

Scholarships Available To Graduating Seniors Pursuing a Degree in Visual Arts!

Friends of the Arts Center is now accepting applications for the Raymond T. Forsberg and Marilyn Ann Hurley Memorial Scholarships, both in the amount of $5,000.

These scholarships are available to graduating seniors attending high school within a 35-mile radius of Waterloo who are planning to pursue a post-secondary degree in the visual arts (art education, graphic design/graphic communications, fine arts, photography, etc.). A panel of art professionals will select scholarship winners based on students’ application, essay, portfolio, transcript, SAT/ACT scores and letters of recommendation. All application materials are due by 5:00pm on Friday, April 24, 2026. Two scholarship recipients will be notified and honored with a reception in May.

Students may download an application at www.waterloocenterforthearts.org/learn, pick-up an application in person at the Waterloo Center for the Arts, or request one by contacting the Center at 319.291.4490 or [email protected].

Julia is in her second year at UNI, majoring in sport administration.

Meet Abigail Kissel, the Assistant Director of UNI’s Center for Urban Education! A UNI alum and longtime Cedar Valley community member, Abigail brings experience as an educator, advisor, and advocate for students and families. From teaching middle school to supporting adult learners and now leading UNI-CUE’s tutoring center and 5th-grade Leadership Academy, she is excited to continue building strong connections with schools and families across the Cedar Valley.
