My Reflection Matters

Dear Beloved Community,

I’m writing to you with a tender, open heart as My Reflection Matters continues to transform—and so do I.

This is not a rebrand.
This is a rebirth.

For nearly six years (actually more bc MRM was initially created back in 2016 before transitioning into MRMV), My Reflection Matters Village has been a homeplace for families and educators—especially those identifying as BIPOC—walking the path of unschooling, self-directed learning, and decolonized education. Together, we’ve cultivated a living, breathing village grounded in cultural affirmation, justice, and collective care.

But like all living things, evolution calls.

As for me—Chemay—I’ve been in deep listening. To my body. My spirit. The land. My ancestors. (This is why I've been so quiet in our Village community in recent months.) And what’s come through is this: I am being called to shed a public identity that no longer fits. The “brown unschooling mama” and “recovering DEI coach” identities carried me as far as they could. They were necessary in their season. But that season is closing.
I’m stepping fully into my next becoming: intuitive healer, ancestral guide, temple tender. This is the work that has always lived beneath the surface. Now, it comes forward to lead.
What’s shifting?

My Reflection Matters Village is moving away from being an online hub for unschooling resources, events, and DEI-related education. Instead, it will evolve into a quieter, more soul-aligned sanctuary—a space devoted to ancestral healing, intuition reconnection, and land-based ritual.

I will no longer be hosting a calendar of guest facilitators or educational events. The village will no longer be centered on unschooling content. I will not be managing a virtual community in the same way I once did. Instead, I will:

Offer 1:1 intuitive readings, with written reflections and custom visual affirmation cards

Share monthly collective readings to attune to community energy

Write and release reflections on my own healing and spiritual path

Co-host seasonal, land-based healing retreats with other intuitive practitioners and healers

Create offerings to support others in reconnecting with their intuitive gifts

This transformation will take time.
Over the next month or so, I’ll be clearing out and reweaving both the Mighty Networks platform and our Patreon space to reflect these new directions. This includes making decisions around where all of our recordings and other content will be housed for easy access. There may be quiet spells—and then soft sprouting.
What I’m asking of you:

UPDATE!! Radical Learning and My Reflection Matters Village are now hosting The Shift Feb. 25-Mar. 4th in Añasco, Puerto Rico (Dates were originally for November.)! This event is for anyone interested in self-directed learning and living. The Shift offers participants the opportunity to examine the core beliefs and practices required to shift out of control and fear-based learning into relationship centered education and parenting.

Join us this Thursday inside MRMV for Liberated Literacy with
Villager, Dominique! This 6 week series i a gathering space for parents and caregivers who want to support their children’s reading and writing journeys with joy, purpose, and freedom. Rooted in self-expression, identity, and a deep love of language, this offering invites adults to unlearn rigid, outdated ideas about literacy and embrace a more expansive, child-centered approach. Each session will open with a story—because story is at the heart of it all—and from there we’ll dive into conversation, exploration, and mutual support. As freedom guides, adults will be supported in their own learning, too.

There is no set curriculum here—because the child is always the curriculum. Our work will be guided by the real questions, concerns, and wonders that caregivers bring each week. Whether you’re wrestling with reading “levels,” confused by competing methods like phonics or whole language, or simply unsure how to nurture a love of literacy in your home, this space is for you. We will meet children—and you—where you all are, and make that our north star.

As a former DEI coach, I know the cost of burnout. I spent years teaching others how to dismantle oppression while neglecting the internal work needed to free myself. As social change makers in this world, we rarely create space for our own healing, joy, or connection with each other and the divine field that holds ancestral wisdom waiting to be shared. Facing my shadows and reconnecting with my intuitive gifts taught me that healing from colonialism and oppression isn’t some super analytical or academic process—it’s an energetic, self-archeological dig that aims to reveal the entanglement of systems desiring to become whole and coherent.

We are energy. Our ancestors knew this. Science now confirms it. Yet so much of DEI work bypasses this truth—focused on external systems without addressing the internal ones we carry within. DEI failed to cultivate the space where we harmonize energy, because we got caught up in perpetuating the polarization that oppression loves to feed. This was not intentional. In fact, it makes sense we did this (and many continue to do so) because it is a natural response to the trauma that birthed DEI centers and practitioners.

Real transformation begins when we ask: What is this system reflecting back to me? Healing means to feel again--to remember who we are and why we are here. That knowing brings clarity in how we serve our communities well. The work I hold space for inside My Reflection Matters Village invites you to slow down, reconnect with your intuition, and lead from your true self, not from trauma or the overthinking mind.

Through My Reflection Matters Village, I’ve been creating both virtual and in-person experiences to nourish the spirits of those walking the path of liberated learning and living. This work demands that we also play, rest, and remember the ancestral practices that sustained our communities.

Right now, we've been gifted the opportunity to purchase Hacienda Casa Campo--the sacred space in Boriké where we've been hosting our healing and liberation gatherings for educators and caregivers choosing to reclaim their power in creating a lifestyle and learning environment centered in liberation.

Colonization severed our relationship with the Earth. Rebuilding that connection is central to both personal and collective healing. Nature is not separate from us—she is a co-teacher and collaborator. Our superpower cannot be fully tapped into without our connection to Pachamama. If we don't know how to access our own superpower abilities, how do we support our children in doing the same?

This is one of the reasons why My Reflection Matters Village exists—and why we’re expanding from virtual to physical space. Our new healing hub is grounded in liberation practice, designed to help you transmute colonial pain into possibility and reconnect with the wisdom that already lives within you. It's no coincidence that in the midst of all this global chaos, we've been given the opportunity to purchase a space where we've already hosted healing opportunities for local and international members. Because THIS IS THE reEVOLUTIONARY work our universe is demanding we step into next.
