By now, I am sure you have heard the great news! Last week, the Waterbury Teachers Association signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Board of Education to shorten the school year by four days. This means our teachers get to celebrate and enjoy their last day right alongside our students on June 18th!
We want to extend a massive thank you to Dr. Schwartz, Mayor Pernerewski, and the BOE for working so closely with us over the last few weeks to make this happen. Without your collaboration and support, this wouldn't have been possible.
Now, our teachers can look forward to a well-deserved, extended summer break. Enjoy it, everyone!

On Monday, May 4, WTA President Kevin Egan, Dr. Schwartz, Rep Ron Napoli along with other city officials visited Crosby High School to share some welcome news with a group of seniors gathered in the media center. The Connecticut General Assembly has passed special legislation allowing Waterbury to waive the four school days that were originally scheduled to be made up after the citywide water main break earlier this year.
For our high school seniors, that announcement came with an immediate payoff: their last day of school will now be June 18 instead of June 25. It’s a well‑earned early start to summer — and great news for all of our students across the district. Conversations will now continue to discuss implications on all staff.
