Massabesic Adult and Community Education hosted its graduation ceremony at Massabesic High School East Building this past Tuesday, June 16th. Twenty-seven students have graduated this year with their high school diploma or high school equivalency through the HiSET program.

Many of these graduates plan to further their studies through the Maine Free College Scholarship program. This, now permanent, initiative covers tuition costs at any of the state's community colleges for students enrolled in degree or certificate pathways. Additionally, other graduates are utilizing their new credentials to enter the local workforce, beginning professional roles in manufacturing, welding, and customer service.

Massabesic Adult and Community Education offers academic programming to those looking to finish high school, either by completing their required credits or by taking HiSET tests. HiSET, which replaced the GED in Maine a number of years ago, is a self-paced program that involves working to pass five tests in the core subjects of Reading, Writing, Science, Social Studies, and Math.

Our spring classes are wrapping up. Thank you to everyone who attended a class, learned a new skill, and met a new person with us this spring. We'll be back in the fall with more classes!

The baby/toddler group scheduled for May 8 at 10am at the Shapleigh Community Center has been cancelled. We look forward to seeing folks for our next event on June 12!
