Happy Friday, WRE Families! Please take a moment to read the below message! If you have students who are walkers, practicing this ahead of time with them could be helpful for them to know what is going on. We know that this begins soon, but we can work together to get through this construction!
A message from our principal, Ms Bradshaw:
"Thank you to all of our families who reached out with question about the upcoming traffic changes. I was able to gain some clarification from the City of Watauga on the impacts construction will make to our traffic and walking patterns for our school community.
Please see the attached maps for the traffic closures.
If you have additional questions, please reach out directly to Ms. Bradshaw (Principal) or the City of Watauga and I will work to gain clarification as well as share the information with our school community. We understand and acknowledge the extra stress construction adds to everyone's day, and will work together to make sure we are ensuring a safe and (hopefully) stress free arrival and dismissal for all of our families!"
Here is the verbiage directly from the City of Watauga regarding sidewalk closures:
On Tuesday, August 25th, our contractor DDM Construction will close Starnes Road intersection at Whitley Road to all traffic except:
Whitley Road northbound right turn lane will remain open
On the same day or one day earlier, N Park Drive will be open to east/west traffic.
We hope to reopen Starnes Road sometime after the 15th of October. We will confirm the date after the work starts.
The sidewalk on Starnes Road will be closed from Partridge Drive to Spring Drive. It would be best to route any students who walk west from the school as follows:
Westbound Cross Whitley Road at Hickoryhill
Continue westbound on Hickoryhill to Park View
Turn right (north) onto Park View to Starnes
Turn left (west) on Starnes to your destination
Reverse these directions for coming to school in the morning.
