Hi, my name is Billie Davenport. I’m the mom of 4 sweet girls and get to teach life skills at Riverside which I’m super excited about! I’m new to Washington County and absolutely love it! Here is another one of our new second grade teachers!
My name is Taylor Hansen and I am so excited to be at Riverside! This is my third year teaching and I am so lucky to be living my childhood dream of being a teacher. I am originally from Las Vegas and I graduated with my degree in elementary education from SUU. I am married to my best friend Mr. Hansen and he is a student at RVU. When I’m not teaching, I love to work on my craft projects, go to the movies, and bake treats. I can’t wait to get this year started!

Here we are again to introduce our new Counselor Ms. Shay!
Hi! I am Shay Sorensen, a mom of students at Riverside for 4 years now! My kids and I love Riverside and feel so grateful to get to work with you all.

A bit about me- I have four kids- one starting kinder in the fall! 5th grade, 8th grade and 10th grade. I received my first degree from Weber State University in Public Health, my second degree from SUU in Family Life and Human Development, and just graduated with my Masters in School Counseling from the University of Utah.

I grew up in northern Utah but my kids and I have lived in Virginia and most recently before moving to St George, Maine! We love going camping, being outside, playing at the lake, board games, sitting out back in our chatting chairs especially on summer nights, and hanging out with friends.

I LOVE the elementary level because I am passionate about prevention and teaching students skills that will help them be successful in their lives and build a foundation on.

I truly feel so blessed to be able to work with all of you and our fantastic new principal, Mrs Young! I can’t wait to get to know you all better

We have a new Music teacher this year! Please welcome Mrs. Cieslak. Here is a little bit about here: "Hi, I'm Megan Cieslak! I'll be teaching BTS music here at Riverside Elementary! I am an experienced violist and I have had the privilege to play with artists like Jenny Oaks Baker and Family, Alex Boye, Lexi Walker, and many other fantastic musicians. I graduated from Utah Tech University in 2023 with a Bachelors in Music Education and I’ve taught beginning orchestra in Nebo School District for the past 3 years. I’m very passionate about music education and I love sharing the love for music with my students and helping them find community and belonging through music!

Now we have a new 5th grade teacher. Mr. Maddux. Here is a little bit about Mr. Maddux. I have lived in Southern Utah all my life. I grew up in Kanab and graduated from high school there in 2020. I decided to immediately pursue my career and started at Utah Tech University that fall. I attended Utah Tech from 2020 to 2024, taking a gap semester during that time. In 2022, I moved to St. George, where I’ve been ever since. I discovered my love for teaching during my senior year of high school when my band teacher asked me to be her teacher’s aide. She gave me the opportunity to lead lessons and work with students in the band, that is when I knew teaching was the path for me. I’m what you’d call a busy-body—I always love to be doing something, whether it’s hiking, reading, playing sports, or just enjoying a game with friends. I’m also a very optimistic person, always trying my best to look on the bright side, even when it’s difficult. I’ve loved working at La Verkin Elementary this past year, and I know this upcoming school year will be just as great!

Please welcome Mrs. Sorensen to our 4th grade team. Here is a little about her: I am originally from Logandale, Nevada and am thrilled to be joining the Riverside Elementary community next year! I am currently wrapping up my inaugural year of teaching fifth grade at LaVerkin Elementary. Prior to that, I completed my student teaching with a first-grade class in West Valley, Utah, following my studies at BYU-Idaho. When I am not in the classroom, I am usually outside enjoying nature through activities like kayaking, camping, hiking, and fishing, or perhaps spending some quiet time painting. I am so eager to meet everyone and look forward to a wonderful school year together. I love teaching because it allows me to connect with students and explore the world around us.
