If you see these guys around, please give them a handshake and thank them for the incredible job they did in this brutal heat. We truly appreciate their hard work, kindness, and willingness to serve our school community. They are outstanding young men!

One of the St. Landry Parish School District’s 33 schools, a 5th-8th grade middle school serving the Plaisance community near Opelousas, Louisiana. Plaisance School was founded in 1920 as a Rosenwald School.

Grand Prairie Elementary Family,

Our community school is closing and our staff and students will transition to Plaisance Elementary in the near future.

A Legacy Walk will be conducted at Grand Prairie Elementary for all current and past students, faculty, staff, and community members.

As soon as the transition is complete, a date will be set for one final goodbye where supporters can reminisce about the wonderful memories that were made at our lil country school.

Plaisance Elementary Families: Please see attached flyer. ALL K-4th grade GPE students must register at Plaisance Elementary to update important information using the SLP registration packet. GPE students are considered returning students. New students from surrounding areas must bring in additional documents. Registration packets can be picked up on or after July 29th and returned prior to the start of school year. PreK students registered at Grand Prairie Elementary will transfer to Plaisance Elementary.

Dear GPE/Plaisance Community,

As we transition to Plaisance Middle, I wanted to reach out to all of you so you can begin preparing for the upcoming school year.

Our GPE uniform policies will remain the same with the exception of uniform shirt colors. Shirt colors are green, navy, and white with khaki or navy bottoms.

Only clear/mesh backpacks are allowed. We are working on spirit wear orders and school policies pertaining to the wear of that.

PreK-4th grade school supply lists will remain the same as what was sent out with report cards and posted on the GPE website.

I know there are lots of questions left to be answered and we are working diligently to answer those as information is presented to us. Please note that the majority of our faculty/staff will transition to Plaisance and will work hard to make this transition as easy as possible.

Mrs. Chasity Williams is also working hard to welcome and accommodate our students so a huge thanks goes out to her. More information will be sent as soon as possible and we will hold a parent orientation closer to the start of the school year. Rest assured, our kiddos will be in great hands!

Dear Plaisance Middle School Students, Parents, and Families,

We hope you are enjoying a safe and relaxing summer.

It is with regret that we inform you that the Chess Camp scheduled for July 27–30, 2026, has been canceled due to insufficient student enrollment and limited interest in the program.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this cancellation may cause and appreciate your understanding. Although we are disappointed that we will not be able to offer Chess Camp this summer, we remain committed to providing meaningful opportunities that encourage our students to learn, grow, and develop as strategic thinkers and problem solvers.

We look forward to exploring future programs and experiences that will engage our students and support their academic and personal development.

Thank you for your continued support of Plaisance Middle School. We wish all of our students and families a wonderful, safe, and enjoyable summer.
