For our first community connection organization our 2nd Grade classes have focused on RSQ. The 2nd graders have been leading RSQ announcements through out the month during morning meetings!

Mission: Run entirely by unpaid volunteers and supported by donations, RSQ focuses on rescuing abandoned, abused, and stray animals from underserved and rural communities with limited resources.

Animals Cared For: While they primarily rescue dogs and cats, they also take in other animals like rabbits, pigs, guinea pigs, chickens, and occasionally reptiles.

Services Offered: They provide pet adoptions, foster networks, pet food assistance for families in need, and community outreach.

At Mountain View Montessori, we believe that real-world service builds real-world character. Each month, our classrooms step outside familiar thinking to unlock deeper understanding while supporting a local non-profit.

Whether it’s gathering needed supplies for families in need, crafting cheerful cards for local seniors, planting flowers to brighten community spaces, or spending time with rescued animals at a shelter—every student, from our littlest learners to our oldest leaders, plays a part in giving back. Even our youngest children engage in meaningful acts like assembling care packages, helping sort donations, or practicing kindness through classroom-based service projects that connect to causes beyond the school walls.

These hands-on experiences nurture empathy, teamwork, and a lifelong love of service—reminding students that even the smallest hands can make a big impact

Throughout the school year, each grade level champions a month-long community service project, giving every student the opportunity to lead, collaborate, and make a tangible difference. It’s more than a project—it’s a movement of kindness and teamwork, empowering children to work toward a common goal and see themselves as changemakers, one compassionate act at a time.

Special Enrichment Classes
——
Physical Education (K-7)
The physical education program is responsible for helping students learn the value of activity for health, recreation, social interaction, and more. PE classes teach children skills that they will use throughout their entire lives. Our physical education program will also promote that physical fitness is fun. Finally, our physical education program will always develop, teamwork, sportsmanship and cooperation. Taught by Donald Glover.

Art (K-7)
The purpose of Art is to inspire all students to reach their fullest potential by trying hard things and to allow all students to be creative thinkers. Students will also explore the many genres of art and meet many of Art’s Masters to learn about their fascinating lives and artistic impact. Artists will come to life before their eyes as students use multiple strategies to produce creative art projects. Taught by Trish Poole.

Library (K-7)
Our main goals for our Library are to help students find books they’re interested in and to encourage students to reach outside of their comfort zone. Students should hear what good reading sounds like by listening to skilled readers reading out loud. Literacy development, including exposure to new word and grammar and expanding their phonological awareness is also stressed. Collaborating with faculty on cross curricular projects is also a focus. Taught by Rachel Peterson.

Makerspace/Engineering Design (K-7)
A makerspace is an area where users can use tools and equipment to design, build, and create all sorts of different things. Projects range from prototyping product designs with 3D printers, to programming robots, to creating art out of recycled items. Makerspace can be described as a collision of art, technology, learning, and collaboration. The curriculum for the Makerspace program is designed to introduce students to the concepts of engineering through a series of activities. Students will learn the basic mechanics of engineering through hands-on testing and revising their designs using elements of the Engineering Design Process. The school has recently received a grant to help with the purchase of materials

Adventure Awaits : Beyond the Classroom
This OPEN HOUSE Thursday, September 10, 2026
Two Presentations, Choose One, 5:30pm or 6:30pm
———

Dear MVM Families,

We are excited to welcome you to our Open House tomorrow, September 10, from 5:30–7:00 PM!

This year’s Open House will give families an opportunity to check in briefly with their child’s teacher and learn more about the exciting direction we are taking as a school.

We will also be introducing our new vision and plan for the MVM campus, including how we are continuing to grow our outdoor learning spaces and create meaningful, hands-on learning opportunities for our students.

To make the evening flexible for families, we will offer the campus presentation twice:

5:30 PM – Campus Vision & Plan Presentation
6:30 PM – Campus Vision & Plan Presentation

Families can rotate between the presentation and their child’s classroom. Classroom visits are intended to be a short check-in with teachers rather than individual parent-teacher conferences. More detailed conversations about student progress will take place during Parent-Teacher Conferences later this fall.

We are excited to share what is ahead for Mountain View and give you a glimpse into what your students have been working on during these first few weeks of school.

We look forward to seeing you tomorrow evening!

Warmly,
Kasidi Havens
Executive Director
