Please remember that Wednesday, October 7th, is an early release day for Wilkes County Schools. Schools will dismiss at the following times:

11:40 AM – WWPS
11:50 AM – WWES
12:00 PM – WWMS & WWCHS

Fall Break will be October 8th–14th. Students will return to school on Thursday, October 15th. We wish all of our students, staff, and families a safe and relaxing Fall Break!

Wilkes County Schools will have an early dismissal on Wednesday, October 7th, followed by Fall Break. Dismissal times will be staggered to help our buses run smoothly and ensure a safe dismissal for all students.

Wilkes County Schools is proud to announce a 2026 graduation rate of 92.31%, the highest in recent district history and above Georgia's rate of 88.5%!

This milestone represents a 14.53 percentage point increase in just two years, rising from 77.78% in 2024 to 87.13% in 2025 and now 92.31% in 2026. This tremendous growth reflects our students' hard work and determination, along with the commitment of the faculty, staff, and leadership at Washington-Wilkes Comprehensive High School, and the support of our families.

Through strong academic support, intentional efforts to keep students on track, and additional opportunities such as our Grad School program, WWCHS continues to find ways to help students overcome barriers and reach graduation.

We are incredibly proud of the progress at WWCHS and grateful to everyone who has played a part in helping more of our students graduate prepared for what comes next.

This morning, Washington-Wilkes Middle School and Washington-Wilkes Comprehensive High School conducted their required intruder drills. Our students and staff did an excellent job following procedures throughout the drills.

Practicing emergency procedures helps ensure everyone knows what to do in an emergency and is an important part of keeping our schools prepared. We appreciate the cooperation of our students and staff as we continue making safety a top priority.

We are proud to announce that Washington-Wilkes Primary School and Washington-Wilkes Elementary School have earned the 2025-2026 John Hancock Banner and Proficiency Ribbon from the Georgia Department of Education! WWPS and WWES are two of only 307 schools across Georgia to receive this recognition.

The John Hancock Award recognizes schools for excellence in cursive writing instruction and student proficiency. WWPS and WWES earned this recognition by demonstrating that at least 90 percent of participating students can successfully write their names in cursive. Learning cursive gives students the chance to develop their own unique handwriting, build confidence, and strengthen important writing skills. It is a skill they can carry with them for years to come and one that connects them to the handwritten history all around us.

Congratulations to the students, teachers, and staff at WWPS and WWES on this outstanding achievement! We are proud to celebrate their hard work and this well-deserved recognition.

Our Agriculture students have been hard at work growing Buttercrisp and Romaine lettuce in our school greenhouse, and now their harvest is being served right here in our schools! The fresh lettuce was harvested and delivered to the WWMS/WWCHS School Nutrition kitchens, where it was prepared for the salad bar for staff and students to enjoy.

This partnership between our Agriculture program and School Nutrition gives students hands-on experience growing fresh produce and the opportunity to see the results of their hard work served to fellow students. Thank you to Mrs. Seawright’s Ag students for their work in the greenhouse and to our School Nutrition staff for helping bring their harvest to the table!

Washington-Wilkes Primary School conducted its required intruder drill this morning as part of our ongoing school safety efforts. Our students and staff did a great job following procedures and practicing what to do in an emergency. Safety drills are an important part of keeping our school prepared, and the safety of our students and staff remains our highest priority.

Happy National IT Professionals Day!

Today, we celebrate Jonathan Rogers, Technology Director, and Cody Brantley, Network Technician, for the important work they do each day to support Wilkes County Schools. Whether they are keeping our systems and networks running, solving technology issues, or helping staff across the district, our technology team plays an important role in keeping our schools connected and supporting teaching and learning each day.

Washington-Wilkes Elementary School completed our required intruder drill this morning. Our students and staff did a great job following procedures throughout the drill.

Safety drills help students and staff practice what to do in an emergency and are an important part of keeping our school prepared. We appreciate everyone’s cooperation and encourage families to talk with their children about taking these drills seriously.

The safety of our students and staff remains our highest priority.
