The Bayou Bird Fest featured speaker is Matt Courtman. He has studied and pursued the Ivory-billed Woodpecker for half a century. Tickets are $45, but you don't have to go on the tour to enjoy the Town-sponsored lunch immediately following his talk. The jambalaya luncheon after the event is only $6 and you can buy tickets from Ethel at 337-945-0948.

There's a mystery in surrounding the Ivory-billed Woodpecker. After the Bayou Birdfest Tour in Washington, speaker Matt Courtman, former president of the Louisiana Ornithological Society and founder of the Louisiana Wilds Project, speaks on Louisiana's Greatest Outdoor Mystery: Is the Ivory-billed Woodpecker Extinct? Tickets are $45 and include your choice of a guided birding tour of Bayou Courtableau or Thistlethwaite WMA. https://cajuntravel.com/event/bayou-bird-fest/

We were into birds before Audubon was in diapers.

In the Town of Washington, we’ve been watching over 200 species of birds for 300 years. Come watch them with us at our Tricentennial Bayou Bird Fest on Saturday, March 28. Choose between a Bayou Courtableau boat tour or a Thistlewaite Wildlife Management Tour. Tickets are $45 and can be purchased at Ardoin's Discount Grocery, Sebastien Dupre Fine Jewellery or by calling Ethel (337) 945-0948 or Catherine (337) 412-5032.

It’ll be old school. Just like us.

The bayou trading post that would eventually become the town of Washington dates back to 1720, making it the third oldest settlement in the Louisiana Purchase.

A rendition by Washington artist Ted-Ava Petermann Bertrand of the old Schmitt hotel on Bayou Courtableau with a ghostly steamboat passing by has been selected for use as the official poster for the Washington Tricentennial. The house, at the corner of Bridge and Dejean streets, better known today ss the Steamboat House, is now a private residence.

The ARTworks by Ted Bertrand gallery is located in the old Bank of Sunset building at 855 Napoleon Avenue in nearby Sunset, Louisiana.
