Saturday, January 11th: Wreaths Out at Arlington National Cemetery at 8:00 a.m.

On Saturday, January 11th, 2025, Georgetown Alumni are invited to Wreaths Out to assist in removing the wreaths from headstones from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Arlington National Cemetery.

Proceed to the Main Gate (Welcome Center) via pedestrian walking paths. We will meet in the courtyard after the entryway security checkpoint. Once everyone has arrived, we’ll begin Wreath removal as guided. Kindly note that there is free parking at the Arlington National Cemetery on a first-come basis and cars typically start arriving around 7:30 a.m. to wait for the garage to be opened. Arlington National Cemetery is also accessible by Metro on the Blue Line.

DC Food Project launched in 2018 to provide school children and their families access to additional food during the school day and over the weekends when school meals are not available to them. Our non-profit fills what we refer to as "the gap" -- what happens when lunch is over? This gap has an impact on tens of thousands of students, with 1 in 5 children struggling with hunger in DC alone.

What to expect:
· Seeking 5 to 8 volunteers with cars for end of year DC Food Project packing and distribution.
· The delivery trucks bringing the food sometimes run late so patience is required for this event and having the morning off from work.
· Each Volunteer Day lasts approximately 2-3 hours.
· Volunteers will organize all delivered items, sort, pack bags and prepare for distribution.
· Volunteers will drive and deliver items to assigned school(s). Yes, you need a car or partner up with someone who has one, please.

Hoya Saxa! It's a new season and we have another opportunity to connect with our fellow Hoyas to create community and cheer on our men's basketball team. The DC Hoyas will be hosting game watches at alumni-owned Duffy's in Dupont Circle for the December 6 West Virginia Game and and the December 14 Syracuse game, with more to come in January and February. Join us for a ‘Social with Impact’ on Tuesday, Nov. 19, 6-8 pm at The Admiral in Dupont Circle. The Metro DC Club is teaming up with the emerging ‘Hoyas for Others’ (H4O) Social Impact Alliance to host a networking night of area nonprofit and other social impact professionals.

This will be a great opportunity to learn about an emerging Hoya group and connect with Alums in the social impact space.

What is H40? “H4O aims to connect, celebrate, and foster collaboration among GU alumni of all years, schools, and programs who are professionally engaged in social impact, social justice, and/or service -- whether at a nonprofit, university, government entity, corporation, foundation, or in a volunteer role. We also strive to highlight the many University programs and initiatives that advance social change, and support students who are interested in social impact careers by connecting them to alumni through Hoya Gateway and other venues. As each new school year begins, we look for ways to partner meaningfully with a DC public school and typically help with books and general school supplies. This year we are going a slightly different route to help a school. Through Donors Choose. we have selected Ms Eby’s project at Cardozo Education Campus in Washington, D.C. We would like to try to raise the $712 needed to fulfill this project.

If we could get about 150 Hoyas to donate $5 each to this classroom project between now and December 11th, we would help 120 students receive a color printer for their classroom which will enhance their learning experience with improved and better quality visual material. The price includes a set of toners and print cartridges.
