Continuing MCBC's tradition of engagement and cooperation with China!

Yesterday I had the opportunity to meet with the Maryland China Business Council and discuss the ongoing collaboration between Maryland and China. China is our state’s 5th largest export market, with more than $460 million in Maryland product purchased in 2016. In 1996, Maryland was the first state to establish a foreign trade office in China, and in the past two decades we have supported nearly $1 billion in exports.

MCBC was welcomed by the Office of Economic and Commercial Affairs of the Chinese Embassy on Thursday to discuss Maryland and China. MCBC's host, Tian Deyou and colleagues Jiang Haiying and Chen Yong, arranged for the event at the Embassy's offices.

Attendees were honored to be greeted by Minister Zhu Hong and his team of expert staff, heard words of encouragement from Maryland's Lt Governor Boyd Rutherford, and listened to insight about trade and investment from Secretary of State John Wobensmith, Robert Daly (Director of the Kissinger Institute on China and the United States), and Erin Ennis (Senior Vice President of the US-China Business Council).

Thank you to all our supporters and co-organizers, the Baltimore-Xiamen Sister City Committee (chaired by Cindy (Xin) Wang) and the Maryland-Anhui Sister State Committee (chaired by Bob Zhang).
