Georgetown Visitation Preparatory School

Catholic, Salesian college preparatory school for girls, located in Washington and founded in 1799

Founded in 1799 in Washington, D.C., Georgetown Visitation is a college preparatory school for girls in grades 9-12. We are rooted in the Roman Catholic faith and Salesian tradition, and are committed to educating young women from diverse backgrounds. This page serves to bring together both the Visitation community as well as prospective students to celebrate the Visitation spirit on 35th Street and beyond.

We gathered today to celebrate the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, praying and singing together in Mass, and hearing a beautiful reflection on the Salesian Little Virtue of patience - a virtue it is sometimes easier to apply to others than it is to offer to yourself. As our student speaker shared, when patience and grace are extended to you, it helps you extend patience to yourself when you need it, too.

Students and faculty gathered to pray the rosary today for our Advent Prayer Service, reflecting on the Joyful Mysteries using the wisdom of St. Francis de Sales and St. Jane de Chantal.

As we enter into Advent, we enter into a season of waiting and must remember- patience is a gift.

Several students and faculty are attending the Student Diversity Leadership Conference and People of Color Conference both in St. Louis, planned by the National Association of Independent Schools. This year’s SDLC theme is “Bending the Arc Toward Justice.” We look forward to hearing what they’ve learned! 📸: Mrs. Clay

Are you Team Antigone or Team Creon? Which character is really the tragic hero of the story? In Cole’s Courtroom, students debated whether Antigone should be the title of the play, or if there is really another tragic hero for whom it should be named.

We are grateful for sisterhood and friends who will last a lifetime; for teachers who demonstrate Salesian hospitality with an open door and a cup of tea, and who engage our students in experiments and discussions; for times when we bow our heads in prayer together, joining hands across the Nolan Center; for the sharing of croissants and cookies and cupcakes and Diet Cokes from vending machines; and for all the little moments that make smiles like these each day. So today, , a national day to support causes you care about, consider donating to the Visitation Annual Fund to make those moments like these possible for our students - today, and tomorrow. Head to now.

Physics students embarked on an experiment around gravity, acceleration, and force, using an elevator and modified scales to see what the effect would be as they moved up and down.

A good plan is a great beginning. Progress is better. The end is best. Whatever your project is - a house cleanup, a school assignment, a goal for yourself, remember that progress can be celebrated.

Mrs. Calabrese snapped these photos on a rainy Friday of Gold-White Week - a perfect day for some quiet reading.

Today, we give thanks to the Lord for the many graces and gifts He has given us. Know we are grateful for you, our Visitation family. We wish you a blessed and joyful Thanksgiving.

Bountiful Food Feast is truly bountiful - in good food, in smiles, in hugs, in laughter shared over a meal together, in desserts (there were at least four tables of them!), in volunteers, and most of all, in friends. All students join in, sampling cookies their friends have made, trying dishes from classmates' families, and sitting down on the floor of the gym to enjoy their overflowing plates. Alums often return to see teachers, catch up with younger Visters, and reunite. Faculty and staff gather at a long table, together, sharing plans for the holiday. It is a moment of community, and one for which our community is grateful.

Today, our community gathered for our Thanksgiving Mass, a special moment for our students, faculty, and staff to offer our gratitude to the Lord for all that we have been given.

Serving all with joy - important advice, that we must be ready to help both friends and strangers with the same kindness.

Erin Murphy ‘05 moderated a discussion between Peggy Hamilton ‘85 and Rachel Jones ‘08 on DEI at Visi Today this week as part of our alum series of Community Conversations. Rachel is Visi’s Director of DEI, and Peggy - alongside Raynetta Jackson-Clay - co-coordinated Visi’s DEI programming for years. Thanks to our moderator, panelists, and those who joined us!

How do you Live Jesus in your daily life? How do you carry Christ to those you meet? Today's Loving Life, Living Jesus reflection by Elizabeth '24 spoke of this month's Little Virtue of hospitality, saying, "Hospitality can be present in every interaction and, even if we don’t think about it all the time, we always feel it when it is there. In this way it is definitely a 'Little Virtue' because it can be practiced in every little moment, not just grand gestures."

The Cubs claimed their first soccer state title yesterday, with a 3-0 win in the DCSAA finals. “There’s no better way to finish the season off besides winning a championship game as your last high school game,” Makaela '24 said to the Washington Post. “It’s just really an incredible moment.” Congratulations, Cubs, and thanks to all who came to cheer them on!!! 🐾

This wisdom felt right for Veterans’ Day weekend, as we honor in prayer all those who have served, continue to serve, and will serve our country, especially our alums and members of the Visitation family. For, truly, there are so many Little Virtues one displays in service, courage and perseverance among them.

Esprit wasn't the only big arrival on 35th Street today - brought its junior class to campus once more! Our juniors had a chance to talk to their Visters about their shared Salesian charism and what may be the same or different on each of their campuses. Viz toured campus, met with student leaders and the Sisters, and discovered Visi traditions; together, we celebrated Mass before students headed off to enjoy Esprit de Noel shopping!

BRAINSSS! They’re amazing. 🧟‍♀️ Zombies want to eat them, and fascinatingly, a zombie brain itself has some dysfunctional elements that could perhaps by helped with a student-brainstormed medicine to counteract zombie symptoms like constant hunger, poor motor control, and increased aggression. Neuroscience students worked in groups this week to come up with a product to market to zombies!

Alums and their families - and some of our students, too! - came together for a service project this past weekend, putting together toiletry kits for Bread for the City. With thanks to alums near and far who donated or joined us on campus, we were able to donate 750 kits to those in need.

What should you do instead? Take the time - the patience, the gentleness - to fix it.

Congratulations to Mr. Thomas and Senor Farrell, named by their peers as our Teachers of the Year - novice and veteran, respectively!

AP Environmental Science and physics teacher Mr. Thomas is "all-in" when it comes to his committment to Visi - developing exciting labs, exploring nature on campus, joining impromptu soccer games after school, and more. 🍎

Senor Farrell joined our World Languages faculty five years ago and shows up for his colleagues and his students, often with guitar in hand, whether in the classroom, on retreats, chaperoning the Civil Rights trip, or caroling through the halls at Christmas. 🍏

Ready for a challenge? Our freshmen certainly were last week as they headed to the treetops to put their teamwork skills and courage to the test on Freshman Challenge Day. Climbing, ziplining, and collaboration were key to success.
