Roy Cleveland Sullivan worked as a park ranger in Virginia’s Shenandoah National Park for more than three decades.
Between 1942 and 1977, he was struck by lightning seven times, surviving each incident despite injuries that included burned hair, damaged toenails, shoulder burns, and temporary hearing loss.
No other person is known to have endured so many confirmed lightning strikes.These repeated encounters earned him the nickname “The Human Lightning Rod” and a place in Guinness World Records.
Sullivan sometimes felt that storms seemed to follow him, and other rangers grew wary of standing near him during bad weather.
Though he survived all seven strikes, he carried the physical and emotional scars for the rest of his life, becoming one of the most remarkable figures in weather history.
