JHU’s Advanced Academic Programs division offers professional graduate degree and certificate programs for adults seeking flexibility, career advancement, and personal enrichment. When she’s not teaching in our MA in Nonprofit Management program, Kiltz runs a working farm in Montana, where she grows and raises food that she donates to local nonprofits and community organizations.

Her farm is more than a place to grow food—it’s an extension of her commitment to service. That same passion for strengthening communities and creating meaningful impact is something she brings into the classroom and to the next generation of nonprofit leaders.

Watermelon milk? 🍉🥛 It sounds a little crazy—but for Johns Hopkins University alumnus Maia Silva, it became a business.

After earning his MS in Regulatory Science degree, Silva turned a kitchen experiment with watermelon seeds into MILKish, a plant-based watermelon seed milk brand now sold in more than 125 retail locations.

His experience at Hopkins helped him understand the science, regulations, and entrepreneurship needed to turn an unconventional idea into a real product.

Meet Marcus Sarofim, lecturer in our MS in Energy Policy and Climate program. A former U.S. Environmental Protection Agency scientist who contributed to the landmark 2009 Greenhouse Gas Endangerment Finding, Sarofim brings real-world experience in climate science, policy, economics, and government into the classroom.

His course, Climate Change Policy Analysis, gives students the opportunity to explore how science and policy can work together to address complex challenges—and learn from an instructor recognized with the program’s 2026 Excellence in Teaching award.
