โ€œNormally for artists, you work in isolation, but this is about being vulnerable and acknowledging the audience.โ€โ€”Derrick Adams, one of the six artists commissioned by the Trust for the National Mall for Beyond Granite: https://nyti.ms/3FNu90O

The information kiosks at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial and the Korean War Veterans Memorial got a recent renovation with support provided by our partners at the Trust for the National Mall, the Home Depot, Clark Construction, and Helmets to Hardhats. Several of the park's volunteers, some of whom are veterans themselves, were joined today by representatives of these partners to show off the improvements that will help our staff and volunteers more efficiently assist the millions of visitors to the memorials that honor servicemembers on the National Mall.

You can't tell the story of this nation without the National Mall.

Earlier this month, EagleBank's Tony Marquez and Kathy Harbold attended the Trust for the National Mall's premier event, "Ball for the Mall". ๐Ÿฆ…

Tony and Kathy loved getting the chance to connect with friends and fellow community members at the beautiful Waldorf Astoria Hotel and Old Post Office Clock Tower. ๐Ÿจ

It was a wonderful night of celebrating and honoring the National Mall for its historic significance and symbolism in and outside of our communities. ๐Ÿ™Œ

Friends and alumni in D.C. can join the Trust for the National Mall for a commemorative concert celebrating Dwight Eisenhower's 132nd birthday this Friday at 6 p.m. at the Eisenhower Memorial.
Sunday evening's full hunter's moon moonrise over the Lincoln Memorial and Washington Monument. I took this from the bank of the Potomac River.

Tech details: I've been asked about position of the alignment. I didn't have to chase it. I setup my tripod based on my plot (planned using PhotoPills) and the moon rose where i hoped it would. The image is a blend of two exposures taken a few minutes apart (from the same spot) since the moon was much brighter than the memorial at that height.

Sunday morning's full hunter's moon moonset over the Lincoln Memorial on the National Mall. Great to have clear skies for a centered moon alignment over Lincoln Memorial.

tech details: blend of two exposures taken four minutes apart. First, I captured the moon centered over the memorial. Once the moon dropped below the memorial, I took the low ISO foreground shot.

If you're looking for a place to celebrate German American Day, come on over to the German American Friendship Garden on the Washington Monument grounds. Built to commemorate 300 years of German immigration to America, the garden was designed by German American landscape architect Wolfgang Oehme and dedicated by President Ronald Reagan and Chancellor of Germany Helmut Kohl in 1988. Restored and updated with support from our friends at the Trust for the National Mall this spring, it features plants native to Germany and the United States, fun water fountains, and great views of the Washington Monument and the White House.

Established in 1994, National Public Lands Day celebrates the connection between people and green space in their community, inspires environmental stewardship, and encourages use of open space for education and recreation. In the spirit of this connection, volunteers from Home Depot worked with our staff and partners at the Trust for the National Mall this week to improve the visitor kiosks near the Korean War Veterans Memorial and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial and paint posts and chains around the Lincoln Memorial plaza. We're very grateful for their time and efforts!

A year ago today we transformed the into a national place of mourning. The Trust and the Park Service provided us a beautiful, reverent space in which to honor each person who had died of COVID. That sea of white flags fluttered for just 17 days, but will remain a vivid image, one that honors the continuing losses. Thank you, thank you to the 1,000 volunteers and the supporters who helped bring this art to our nation! We will remember.
