Kindergarten is currently in its 5 Senses Unit! What better way to experience the five senses than with a trip to the garden! ❤️ We had a great time at the Girard Children’s Community Garden.

Students were able to listen to what they heard in the garden, see, feel, and even taste different plants, vegetables and spices! They got to taste a mint leaf!!🙃🥬🧅🌻🌺

To celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, each grade was assigned a country to learn about and celebrate throughout the month; fifth grade is studying Panama! Last week, students spent time coloring the flag of Panama and learning some facts about our class country in homeroom. Over the rest of Hispanic Heritage Month, we will continue learning about Panama and create a banner displaying facts, images, and information to share with families and students at the end of the month.
Ask your student: what does the flag of Panama look like? What have you learned about Panama?

“Take Me Out to the Ball Game!” ⚾️ Yesterday our 5th graders got to attend a Washington Nationals Baseball Game, needless to say it was a day full of fun in the sun!

Photos from Center City PCS Petworth's post 06/16/2022

In Humanities, 5th graders have been trying to answer the question, “How can sports influence individuals and society?” They read about the Negro Baseball Leagues and how sports have shaped history and continue to have an impact on the world. They also learned about how coaches, athletes, and teams have broken barriers and overcome challenges. Then, they chose a famous athlete (like Muhammad Ali, Arthur Ashe, or Misty Copeland) to research and opened a Wax Museum for the rest of the school to teach them about these barrier-breakers!
