This summer marks the 60th anniversary of Mississippi's Freedom Schools. Freedom Schools were more than classrooms; they were spaces of empowerment. Geography shaped their impact, from rural communities to urban centers.
However, the intersection of geography and educational activism demands more than nostalgia—it requires a reckoning. Derek Alderman, PhD and Joshua Inwood provide perspective into this long, intertwined history and the time for academic and professional geographers to step up.
