Join us in our gallery at Washington Studio School on Friday, September 4 from 6 PM to 8PM for the exhibition opening of Art Is Not Decoration a juried exhibition, featuring works by over 40 Washington Studio School students created over the past couple of years. Guided by the core belief that "drawing is thinking," WSS equips artists with the tools to push beyond fixed styles into uncharted creative territory. Experience a dynamic collection spanning collage, drawing, printmaking, painting, and design that showcases rigorous research, intentional experimentation, and authentic artistic growth. This show is juried by WSS Faculty members Marie B. Gauthiez and Paul Pietsch.

This event is free and open to the public in collaboration with Dupont BID First Friday ArtWalk programming.

Art All Night at Washington Studio School

Join us at Washington Studio School on Saturday, September 12th from 6 PM to 11 PM for one of our most anticipated events of the year: Art All Night Dupont 2026! This year, WSS is excited to partner with District Collage co-founders Anjelika Deogirikar Grossman and hasini shyamsundar for a hands-on, Bauhaus-themed activity from 7 PM to 10 PM. You'll create a custom paper collage on a postcard inspired by Bauhaus shapes, colors, and forms, while discovering how art can exist in the everyday tools we use to communicate.

Participants will be encouraged to draw inspiration from the works of art featured in our WSS Student Exhibition Art is Not Decoration, on view in the 1st-floor gallery.

Come one, come all & collage with us! All supplies provided.
Open to all-ages and skill levels. Artists under 16 are asked to be accompanied by an adult.

This two-day workshop invites students into a quiet dialogue between nature and art.
Combining the contemplative disciplines of ikebana, Japanese flower arranging and drawing, participants will explore how form, space, and line intersect across disciplines.

On Day 1, Guided by a qualified ikebana teacher Louise Worner, students will create a seasonal ikebana arrangement based on the principles of asymmetry, space, and line. Through the creation of their own still-life arrangements students will develop a deeper understanding of harmony through imbalance, and the importance and clarity of negative space.

On Day 2, a instructor, Teresa Oaxaca will lead students in translating their arrangements into drawing. The drawing is not just a record, but a continuation of the arrangementโ€™s spirit. Charcoal and Sumi ink welcome.

See more of Louise Worner's works here: https://www.louiseworner.com/ and more of Teresa Oaxaca's works here: https://www.teresaoaxaca.com/
