The Howard University School of Education proudly celebrates Dr. Constance Ellison and Dr. Veronica Thomas—distinguished professors in the Department of Human Development and Psychoeducational Studies—as they prepare to retire at the close of the 2026–2027 academic year.

For more than two decades, Dr. Ellison and Dr. Thomas have advanced Howard University through transformative scholarship, dedicated teaching, institutional leadership, and meaningful service to students, colleagues, and the broader education community.

Dr. Ellison currently serves as Senior Associate Dean of Howard University’s Graduate School. Dr. Thomas, a professor in the School of Education, previously served as Interim Dean. Both have authored numerous publications and books that continue to shape the fields of human development, psychology, and education.

As they begin this next chapter, we extend our deepest gratitude for their enduring commitment, visionary leadership, and immeasurable contributions to the Howard University School of Education and the University as a whole.

Please join Howard University School of Education in congratulating Tribuana Jones, doctoral candidate in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies, on receiving a prestigious Dissertation Fellowship from the Louisville Institute! 🎉

Jones was one of 10 students selected for the competitive fellowship, which provides a $35,000 grant to support her final year of dissertation writing.

Her research examines faith in the educational experiences of Black adolescents, contributing to important conversations about identity, community, and the systems that support student success.

We are proud to celebrate this meaningful achievement and the scholarship shaping the future of education.

The Howard University School of Education community joined Trustee Arne Duncan for a screening of How to Change the World: Episode 6—Chicago CRED in the Digital Auditorium at Blackburn Center.

Trustee Duncan, who serves as Chair of the School of Education Board of Visitors, is also the founder of Chicago CRED and a former U.S. Secretary of Education. The screening highlighted Chicago CRED’s work to prevent gun violence through community-based intervention, mentorship, and pathways to opportunity.

University leadership, student-athletes, students, faculty, and staff were among those who attended this important gathering.

Dr. Dixon joins HUSOE as a Visiting Professor in the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies. A nationally respected education leader, she brings more than 30 years of experience across classroom teaching, school and district leadership, executive coaching, governance, and organizational transformation.

Throughout her career, Dr. Dixon has championed educational equity, academic excellence, student-centered leadership, and partnerships among schools, families, governing boards, and communities. We are honored to welcome her experience and commitment to preparing leaders who serve their communities with courage, wisdom, and purpose.

Please join us in welcoming Dr. Jasmine M. Godwin to the Howard University School of Education! 💙❤️

Dr. Godwin joins HUSOE as an Assistant Professor in Human Development and Psychoeducational Studies. A proud Tuskegee University graduate, scholar, educator, and mentor, she centers the experiences of Black individuals and families across diverse social and cultural contexts.

Dr. Godwin earned her M.S. and Ph.D. in Human Development and Family Science from the University of Missouri. Her research examines how colorism and other forms of structural inequality shape body image, family functioning, interpersonal relationships, and life outcomes. Her scholarship has been recognized with a 2023 National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship for research on colorism and Black father-daughter dynamics.

As she begins her professional career at Howard, Dr. Godwin describes this transition as a “full-circle moment.” She looks forward to collaborating with colleagues, supporting students, building meaningful partnerships, and advancing excellence through teaching, mentorship, research, and service.
