We did a blind tasting tonight of the Willett Reserve Pot Still Cask Strength, Willett Family Estate Jack Rose OG Wheat 3y and Willett Family Estate Jack Rose OG Wheat 2 4y. All are the same wheated mashbill of 75/20/15 and around 120’ proof.

First off they were all remarkably similar on the nose and palate. Both of us were able to pick out the Pot Still. Its nose and palate were a little bit harsher. Not bad but not as refined. The two Jack Rose purple tops were a bit better. Actually excellent for their youth. In the end our ranking was:

1. Willett Family Estate Jack Rose OG Wheat 3y
2. Willett Family Estate Jack Rose OG Wheat 2 4y
3. Willett Pot Still Reserve Cask Strength

A book like no other I have read. This summer’s must read! Every year when we go on vacation I bring a book to read. My favorite time is around a pool reading. This year we had a rare opportunity to go to Maui and I brought Fred Minnick’s latest book. I have read a lot of bourbon books, but this is NOT a bourbon book as it is so much more. It starts with a gripping story of his personal tragedy told in a vulnerable way that hit me emotionally like no other book. It quickly shifts into a love story I didn’t expect. Bourbon is the thread that ties everything together from beginning to end. Reading this book while enjoying a nice bourbon is truly a vacation!
