Carolyn Brick, '60, & G-'63, was one of Gallaudet's first-ever deaf graduate students. However, she began her graduate school journey at a hearing college, where no one signed, and she had to rely on copying the notes of her classmates.

When Gallaudet finally opened its graduate program to deaf students in 1962, Carolyn got the accessibility she needed to thrive. She went on to teach young deaf children for more than 40 years, shaping the lives of countless deaf youth.

Throughout a lifetime of advocacy, Gallaudet remained a home for Carolyn and the place where she always felt accepted.
