Taking risks has never stopped Yiqiao Wang,'09. Born in Beijing, she came to Gallaudet in 2005 for what she called the “Deaf Harvard.”
Through ASL, art, and community, she discovered her identity and new inspiration. She wove the Deaf experience into her work and took another leap by pitching her art to Starbucks.
Gallaudet helped her find her creative expression and the confidence to share it with the world.

Yesterday, our community stood together in a moment of truth and healing. We broke ground on the Louise B. Miller Pathways and Gardens and gathered in a processional to honor Louise B. Miller and the Black Deaf families whose courage reshaped the future of education.
This memorial is more than a space. It is a promise to remember, to uplift, and to build a better tomorrow, supported by the vision of the Necessity of Now campaign.

For 30 years, Gallaudet’s Academic Bowl has shaped friendships, rivalries, and lifelong learners. Recently, our alumni, staff, and mentors returned to relive it all. The questions? Still tough. The competition? Still very real.
