Gallaudet alumni are setting a new standard for accessible storytelling! When the Obama Presidential Center Museum in Chicago and the National Geographic Museum of Exploration in D.C. opened their doors, both featured video exhibits with ASL signers. Alum Storm Smith consulted for each museum, leading teams that included nine fellow Gallaudet alums who worked as signers, ASL coaches, and production assistants.

Gallaudet University President Roberta Cordano and Dr. Joseph Murray, Gallaudet professor and president of the World Federation of the Deaf, joined Deaf leaders and advocates at the Sign Language Rights March in Rome, Italy.

The march, led by Ente Nazionale Sordi as part of the World Federation of the Deaf's 75th Anniversary celebrations, brought global leaders together to advance sign language recognition, accessibility and human rights for Deaf communities worldwide.

Today is International Day of Sign Languages! This year’s theme, “Declaring Deaf People’s Human Rights,” recognizes the importance of sign languages and the human rights of Deaf people.

More than 70 million Deaf people around the world belong to signing communities, using more than 300 different sign languages.

At Gallaudet, these principles are part of who we are every day. American Sign Language and Deaf culture are at the heart of how we learn, work, and connect.
