Here's one last Try Out Tip Tuesday from our Trial Advocacy Directors:
Learn from the best! If you're really stumped and looking to be inspired by advocacy at its absolute best, check out some videos on YouTube. If you search for "national trial competition," you can find the final rounds of one of the most competitive tournaments. Watching some of the best talent in the nation is a great way to see what sorts of things work well.

Registration closes today, so here's another piece of advice from our Trial Advocacy Directors:
Avoid "um" and "uh" or any fillers! Fillers are incredibly tough to drop, but if you notice you use them, that's the first step to getting rid of them. If you're stuck and need to collect your thoughts, just take a pause instead of using a filler. You can pause for a surprisingly long time without your audience noticing or thinking you've lost your train of thought.

It's Try Out Tip Thursday from the directors of Trial Advocacy:
Take pauses and speak slowly! When you say something that you have memorized, you often say it faster than you think you're saying it. Record yourself and play it back to monitor this.

Here's a try out tip brought to you from the directors of the Trial Advocacy Team:
Stay calm! For any speech or public speaking, keeping calm will make you sound more confident. If you aren't actually feeling calm, don't worry! Even the most experienced advocates get nervous. During those times, you just gotta fake it 'til you make it.

Meet Margo Rusconi and her sweet pup Peg! Margo is a member of the Trial Advocacy division, and she is the Executive Director of Barristers' Council. Margo's favorite memory with her division is sitting on a beach with her teammates and a bottle of wine getting to know each other after a crazy tournament in Florida. When she's not on campus, Margo enjoys walking around the National Mall early in the morning to beat the crowds. Thanks for being our fearless leader, Margo!
