You've heard about the 'mind-body connection', but what about the 'gut-skin connection?' 🩺 Your gut and skin are uniquely related in structure and function, and share a common embryological developmental origin. Mounting scientific evidence has confirmed the depth of the connection between the gut and skin, and multiple studies link gastrointestinal health to skin health, particularly for inflammatory skin conditions like acne, eczema, and psoriasis.
Naturopathic physicians have long been aware of this link, and will take steps to assess, measure, and treat gut health as part of the approach to dermatological care.

First year of medical school ✅
I am grateful to be a part of such an uplifting community. At least once per day while I’m in a lecture or lab, I have a moment where I look around the room and think to myself, “Wow, what an incredible group of people.” Each person I’ve met this year brings a unique gift to the table and each one inspires me. We encourage one another to do our best AND to do what is best for us.
One of my favorite things I heard this year was from , “Med school is a team sport,” and it really is.
I’m proud of us and excited to see everyone in action in a few more years.

GERD is triggered by certain foods, so if you identify which foods cause your symptoms to flare up and avoid them or limit their consumption, you will experience less discomfort. Some common foods that trigger flare-ups in people with GERD are:
Citrus fruits
Peppermint
Chocolate
Tomato
Dairy
Carbonated beverages
Caffeine
Spicy foods
Garlic
Alcohol
Fried foods
🍷 When enjoying a bit of these foods, what can you do?
Studies show that sitting upright after eating, focusing on mental wellness and a low-stress lifestyle, along with healthier diet choices and exercise can lead to significant relief from GERD symptoms.

This is a gentle reminder to be kind to your body as you enjoy tasty food with loved ones today! 🦃 Gastroesophageal reflux disease, or GERD, is a condition that causes frequent heartburn, chest pain, regurgitation, burping, feeling a lump in the throat, and coughing. While GERD itself is not life threatening, it can lead to more serious health conditions including esophagitis, Barrett’s esophagus, strictures, and esophageal cancer.
GERD is triggered by certain foods, so if you identify which foods cause your symptoms to flare up and avoid them or limit their consumption, you will experience less discomfort. Some common foods that trigger flare-ups in people with GERD are:
