The Washington Academy of Sciences represents the science community of metropolitan Washington, D.C. area scientific societies.

The Washington Academy of Sciences was incorporated in 1898 as an affiliation of eight Washington D.C. The formation of the Academy culminated a decade of planning under the leadership of the Philosophical Society of Washington. Last night, the Washington Academy of Sciences hosted its Annual Awards Banquet—an inspiring evening dedicated to honoring scientific excellence, leadership, and service to the advancement of knowledge.

Congratulations to all our 2025 award recipients and newly elected Fellows! Your work represents the highest standards of achievement in science, engineering, and education. Each of you contributes to a legacy that began in 1940—one that celebrates those who shape our world through curiosity, innovation, and impact.

Special thanks to our keynote speaker, Dr. Sudip S. Parikh, Ph.D., CEO of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), for his powerful remarks on the future of science leadership and public trust.
