You can’t skip straight to passage fluency. It doesn’t work.

You build automaticity at the foundational levels FIRST:

• Letter sounds
• Individual words
• Morphemes

Then connected text.

That’s what Rapid Recognition Charts do. They build automaticity at each level so students don’t get stuck trying to sound out every single word.

RRC charts can be used as a daily review, part of your fluency practice, or a warm-up before a decodable text.
