Every technique has a story.

Tonight I was teaching Hook Kick in our Black Belt Training class, and it reminded me that martial arts is about so much more than kicks.

This technique wasn't created by me. It was passed down to me by instructors who invested their time, knowledge, and belief in my potential many years ago.

Now, decades later, I have the privilege of passing that same knowledge on to the next generation.

Skills fade. Trophies collect dust. But lessons, values, and wisdom passed from one generation to another can last forever.

Who was a teacher, coach, mentor, or family member that passed something valuable on to you?

Before You Doubt Yourself... Read This!!

There will be moments when life tests you.

Moments when progress feels slow.

Moments when obstacles seem bigger than your goals.

Moments when you question whether you're strong enough to keep going.

When that happens, don't focus on how far you still have to go.
Focus on how far you've already come.

Remember every challenge you've faced.

Every setback you've survived.

Every fear you've confronted.

Every lesson you've learned.

The Hero Within wasn't built when life was easy.

It was forged through adversity.

Some heroes leave trophies. Others leave a legacy that changes lives forever.
Today I honor my brother, Richard Dietrich.
Known around the world as “The Black Belt Baby,” Richard became the youngest black belt in the world and helped pave the way for children in martial arts everywhere.
At just 8 years old, he spoke on Capitol Hill during the induction of Teacher Appreciation Day. He later served proudly in the United States Army and inspired countless people through courage, discipline, and leadership.
But beyond the recognition, medals, and headlines… his greatest joy in life was being a father.
We love you. We miss you. And your legacy lives on.

Today on Memorial Day, we honor my brother, Richard Dietrich.
Known around the world as “The Black Belt Baby,” Richard became the youngest black belt in the world and helped pave the way for children in martial arts everywhere.

At just 8 years old, he spoke on Capitol Hill during the induction of Teacher Appreciation Day. He was featured in The Washington Post, Newsweek, U.S. Magazine, Ripley’s Believe It or Not, Tonka Toys commercials, and more.

But beyond the recognition, Richard was a father, a soldier, a mentor, and a protector.

He proudly served in the U.S. Army and inspired countless lives through courage, discipline, leadership, and heart.

We love you, Richard. Forever our hero.

Today, I just want to pause and celebrate the people who choose to pour their lives into others.

Motherhood is more than a title.
It’s sacrifice.
It’s late nights, early mornings, worry, encouragement, patience, and unconditional love.
It’s putting another human being before yourself again and again… even when no one sees it.

As I look back at this photo of my brother Richard and I in Us Weekly — during the time Richard was recognized as the youngest black belt in the world — I also think about the person behind that journey: my mother.

The hours.
The driving.
The belief.
The emotional investment.
The willingness to dedicate her life to helping her children become the best versions of themselves.

None of those accomplishments happen without someone making that choice to love deeply and invest fully.

To every mother, grandmother, guardian, mentor, and woman who has helped guide a child toward confidence, strength, kindness, and purpose… thank you.

You matter more than words can express.
Your investment changes lives.
And the impact of your love echoes far beyond what you may ever see.

Happy Mother’s Day. ❤️

🔥 I HELPED ESTABLISH TEACHER APPRECIATION DAY 🇺🇸

As a young martial artist standing on Capitol Hill…
alongside my brother and Grandmaster Jhoon Rhee…

We weren’t just there to speak.

We were there on a mission —
to elevate education, character, and the future of our nation.

That mission helped lead to Teacher Appreciation Day becoming law in 1986.

But here’s what most people don’t realize…

👉 It wasn’t about politics.
👉 It wasn’t about recognition.

It was about something deeper:

Respect. Leadership. Legacy.

And today… that same mission lives on.

Every class.
Every child.
Every family.

💥 Because when a child discovers confidence…
💥 When they learn focus…
💥 When they step into leadership…

That’s where real change begins.

If you believe kids today need more confidence and leadership…

Breakthroughs are not accidents… they are earned.

Over time, I’ve seen this truth play out again and again—
in training, in life, and in the next generation we’re raising.

🔥 Every breakthrough you fight through becomes a piece of who you’re meant to be.

This is the lesson martial arts teaches at its core.

Not just how to fight…
But how to become.

More to come.
