Georgetown Parliamentary Debate Team

Hey everyone, be sure to find us at the SAC fair on Sunday and come to practice at 5 that same day in ICC 202!

We hate to jump on the GUSA bandwagon, but we felt it was time we endorsed candidates who truly share our vision for this campus.

This week, we highlight one of our newer but also more experienced members: Emma Rose.

Emma Rose Bienvenu, a native Canadian, is at Georgetown completing the third and final year of a degree from Sciences Po Paris, where she majors in Law. She was introduced to debating in her final year of high school and immediately loved it; a few months later, she made it to semi-finals at the Senior Canadian National Debating Championships. While studying in France, Emma Rose was President of Sciences Po Reims' oratorical debate society and participated in various Model UN conferences, in France and abroad. After spending the summer working at a corporate IT firm in Hong Kong, she is now Head of Communications at Georgetown's Undergraduate Law Review, a member of its editorial board and now a legislative intern in the US House of Representatives. She plans to continue her studies next year with a master’s in finance and possibly a Master of Laws. Emma Rose is also an avid skier and squash player.

This is our team this semester.

Austin Cohen and Abe Fraifeld broke to novice semis at GW! And, Austin got 6th novice speaker! Awesome job guys!

For the most part, we really couldn't have asked for a better tournament at UPenn. Highlights include:
Novices Emma Rose Bienvenu and Austin Cohen broke to varsity octos! Incredible and unprecedented achievement for Georgetown novices!
Novices Katie Haynes and Will Liao broken to novice semis and won to go through to novice finals. Enjoy those trophies, guys! You deserve them!
Novice Katie Haynes won 6th novice speaker. Sweet!
Novice Austin Cohen won 1st novice speaker and 6th varsity speaker. Everyone else move out of the way for this guy!

Great work, all. We anticipate great things from everyone in the tournaments to come.

Alex and Michelle pulled in a 2-3 at Harvard; Alex spoke 128 and Michelle spoke 126. We are happy to have them back safe and sound!

Awesome work by Austin Cohen and Perry Cao, who took 4th best novice team at the Swat tournament! Also, the Georgetown/Rutgers hybrid of Abraham Farifeld and Zach Sinkiewicz took 3rd best team! In addition, Abraham Farifel took 3rd best speaker and Austin Cohen took 5th best speaker! Great job guys! Best of luck to you in the rest of the season!
