October is Learning Disabilities Awareness Month!

This year’s theme, “Unique Minds. Remarkable Potential.”, from the Learning Disabilities Association of Ontario (LDAO), reminds us to build greater understanding of learning disabilities and ADHD, challenge stigma, recognize strengths, and address barriers that can make participation more difficult.

At the National Children’s Center (NCC)®, we believe every person brings unique strengths, interests, experiences, and potential to their community.

Creating a stronger community starts with understanding people as individuals — including how they learn, communicate, connect, and experience the world around them. And that understanding can begin at home.

We learn from one another. We listen to families. We learn from the people we serve. We take those experiences and bring them back into our programs, our relationships, and our communities.

That is how impact grows beyond the four walls of a building.

Through Early Childhood Education, Early Intervention, individualized supports, and community-based services, NCC® works alongside individuals and families to create opportunities to learn, connect, participate, and grow.

Because a strong community is one where people can find their place, build relationships, share their strengths, and feel that they belong.

🌍 Global Diversity Awareness Month | Belonging Starts With Community

October is Global Diversity Awareness Month a time to recognize the cultures, backgrounds, experiences, perspectives, and abilities that shape the communities around us.

At the National Children’s Center (NCC)®, we believe that a strong community begins with a sense of belonging.

Belonging is built through relationships. It grows when we take the time to listen, learn from one another, understand different experiences, and recognize the many perspectives people bring into our communities.

And when we think globally, we must also remember that meaningful impact starts at home.

The people and communities we encounter teach us something. The experiences we share with others give us something to carry forward.

We can take what we learn from the world around us and bring it back into our own communities, our programs, our relationships, and the way we show up for one another.
That is where the ripple begins.

The impact of what happens at NCC® does not have to stop at the four walls of our buildings.

The relationships we build, the lessons we learn, and the connections we create can extend into families, neighborhoods, workplaces, and communities far beyond our own.

From Early Childhood Education and Early Intervention to Community Support Services and services for people with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD), NCC® is part of a larger community one where every relationship has the potential to create meaningful impact.

RECOGNIZING INTERNATIONAL WEEK OF DEAF PEOPLE September 21–27, 2026

This week, National Children’s Center (NCC)® joins communities around the world in recognizing International Week of Deaf People a week dedicated to celebrating Deaf identity, culture, language, contributions, and human rights.

The World Federation of the Deaf (WFD) has designated “Declaring Deaf People’s Human Rights” as the official theme for the 2026 observance.

The theme calls attention to the importance of recognizing and fully implementing the human rights of Deaf people, including access through national sign languages.

As part of this week-long observance, September 23 marks International Day of Sign Languages, with “Declaring Deaf People’s Human Rights” serving as the featured daily theme.

It is an opportunity to recognize the essential role of sign languages in communication, accessibility, participation, identity, and human rights.

At NCC®, inclusion means creating opportunities for people to:

National Hispanic Heritage Month 2026 | Unidos, Somos Más — "Together, We Are More"

From September 15 through October 15, National Children’s Center (NCC)® joins communities across the country in recognizing National Hispanic Heritage Month, a time to celebrate the history, cultural identity, achievements, and lasting contributions of Hispanic and Latino communities.

The 2026 theme, “UNIDOS, SOMOS MÁS” (“TOGETHER, WE ARE MORE”), presented by the National Council of Hispanic Employment Program Managers (NCHEPM), highlights the power of unity, shared experiences, cultural heritage, and collective progress.

Hispanic and Latino communities have made meaningful contributions across education, healthcare, science, technology, the arts, music, business, leadership, and community advocacy.

These contributions continue to influence the way we learn, work, connect, and build more inclusive communities.
