We asked some of our scholar-activists’ parents a simple question:

“Why did you choose Social Justice School?”

No script. No prep. No telling them what to say.

Just parents talking honestly about their kids, their hopes, and what made them say, “Yeah, this is the school for my child.”

And honestly… hearing their answers was everything.

This is the part of the work you don’t always get to see. The trust. The relationships. The reasons families choose to be part of this little school we’ve been building together.

Grateful for our families. Grateful for the trust. And grateful that they let us be part of their children’s journey.

Back to School Night at Social Justice School wasn’t about a long list of announcements, rules, or expectations.

It was about connection.

Families meeting the people who will love, challenge, and support their children. Scholars seeing their families welcomed into our space. Teachers and caregivers building relationships. Conversations happening. Laughter filling the room. Community taking shape.

Because we know that relationships come before rigor. And that when families, educators, and scholars know one another, trust one another, and see one another, learning becomes something we build together.

This is what school should feel like.

Love. Learning. Liberation. Community.

Year 7 is here! 🎉✊🏾

Today, we officially begin Year 7 at Social Justice School—and we are doing it in a way we have dreamed about for years: in our brand new, permanent facility!

From the beginning, SJS has been built on the belief that our young people deserve learning spaces that honor who they are, challenge them to think critically, nurture their brilliance, and empower them to change the world.

To now have a permanent home where our community can continue to grow is a dream come true. 🏫✨

To our students, families, staff, board members, partners, supporters, and everyone who has believed in this vision: THANK YOU. You helped us get here.

Seven years ago, we started with a vision. Today, we are walking into a new chapter with a permanent home and an even bigger purpose.

Year 7. New home. Same mission. Bigger dreams.

Our 8th graders recently had their dance tonight, and wow—they cleaned up NICE! ✨🕺🏾💃🏾

As they like to tell us, they absolutely “clocked it!” From the outfits to the confidence to the joy they brought into the room, this class showed up and showed out.

We are so proud of the amazing young people they have become and all they have accomplished along the way. Tonight was a celebration, and tomorrow we get to celebrate them again at their 8th Grade Promotion Ceremony!

Congratulations, Class of 2026—we can’t wait to honor you tomorrow! 🎓❤️

🏆🎉 Celebrating Excellence On and Off the Field! 🎉🏆

Tonight, we proudly honored our incredible scholar-athlete-activists at our Annual Sports Banquet! From Flag Football 🏈 and Volleyball 🏐 to Soccer ⚽, Basketball 🏀, and Cheer 📣, our students demonstrated dedication, teamwork, leadership, and perseverance all season long.

We are so proud of each scholar-athlete for balancing academics, athletics, and community impact while representing our school with pride and excellence.

A special shout-out to our amazing coaches whose commitment, mentorship, and passion helped make this an unforgettable season. Thank you for investing in our students and helping them grow as athletes, leaders, and changemakers.

Congratulations to all of our athletes on a fantastic season! Your hard work, resilience, and school spirit continue to inspire us all.

Today, me and one of our scholar activists went to the Wilson Building to remind our Councilmembers that charter school students deserve fair and equitable funding. Every child deserves access to the resources and opportunities they need to thrive, regardless of the type of public school they attend.

With deep gratitude, we’re excited to share that the Public Charter School Board unanimously approved our facility amendment tonight.

This moment belongs to our entire crew. It is the result of prayer, faith, dedication, and a shared belief that our young people deserve a space where they will be known, loved, and challenged.

We did this the right way by engaging community, families, staff, and scholar activists every step of the way.

This is bigger than a building. It’s a permanent home for the future our children deserve. Thank you to everyone who carried this vision with us. We got here together.
