Last weekend, Abbey students attended the James Madison University Brain Bee for neuroscience. They visited JMU's neuroscience labs to participate in hands-on experiences with neuroscience faculty and students.
Last weekend, our Model UN attended the Harvard Model UN Conference in Boston. It was a great experience for the Abbey team, with one diplomatic commendation award.
This is National School Counselor Appreciation Week. We thank our three counselors, Mr. DeLuca, Mr. Harwood, and Ms. Marnell for their hard work and dedication to all Abbey boys!
Fire Drills happen at the Abbey!
Pictured here is the groundbreaking for the "New Gymnasium" on October 21, 2000. This year, on Friday, February 14, the Headmaster and the Monastic Community are pleased to invite you to the Benedictine Learning Center (BLC) Groundbreaking! Please arrive by 2:30 PM. The ceremony will begin at 2:50 in the Upper Building Circle. Light refreshments will follow immediately after the groundbreaking in the school library.
Remember how we said we ran into Marco Cerritelli ('11) at ? Well we were also privileged to see him assist as a deacon at the opening Mass at which Cardinal Gregory presided (he's to the Cardinal's right). Of course Abbot James and Fr Samuel were concelebrating at the Mass and thus not taking pictures, so we had to wait for the FOCUS Catholic photographers to share this lovely photo with us.

Summer at the Abbey All-Boys Catholic Gr. 6-12 in Northeast Washington DC A Benedictine Catholic boys school, grades 6 - 12, where every boy is challenged and valued for himself.
Religion classes for 11th and 12th grade students at the Abbey are tough classes. They discuss philosophy and schools of thought in great depth. Students need to develop deep critical thinking skills to get through these classes.
Fr. Peter continues to teach Earth Science to 7th graders at the Abbey. He still patiently explains concepts and vocabulary words year after year!
In January, we have our annual House Penny Wars. This year, we will help purchase educational supplies for the Ampain Refugee Camp in Ghana. Each House collects as much change as it can - but bills count against their totals (even though the Refugee Camp benefits). All of the Houses are running quite a deficit!
Abbey wrestlers hosted a quad meet with Washington Latin, Washington Leadership Academy, and Jewish Day School. Middle School wrestlers were able to compete before the main event.
Last Tuesday, Abbey students went to DC's Lamond-Riggs Public Library. They reshelved books, helped at the circulation desk, and did any tasks the librarians asked them to do. On this Tuesday, there was a job fair and the librarians were very grateful for the Abbey boys' help!
What day is it? What day is it? At the Abbey, it's not just Friday, it is Alban House Day! Alban House members celebrated with casual dress and donuts!
Abbey 11th and 12th grade students perform community service every Tuesday morning during the school day. These seniors are tour guides at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. Today was our first day back from Christmas break (after 2 snow days.). Today was a two-hour delay. Abbey boys came prepared to sled during lunch and enjoyed playing even though it is still cold and windy.
