Happy Friday from our community of Beauvoir Bears!
We spent a lovely spring evening in the Beauvoir Courtyard celebrating our dedicated parent and caregiver volunteers. We are incredibly grateful for all the hard work, time, and talent they devote to helping ensure students and families have a meaningful Beauvoir experience. Thank you, volunteers! 💚
We were delighted to welcome the authors of “When You Wonder, You’re Learning: Mister Rogers’ Enduring Lessons for Raising Creative, Curious, Caring Kids”, Gregg Behr and Ryan Rydzewski, to Beauvoir for a very special Wednesday Windows. Gregg and Ryan spoke with parents, caregivers, faculty, and staff about using lessons from Mr. Rogers to cultivate the joy of wonder and learning.
“Every teacher in the school is the best.” We couldn’t agree more! The commitment and care from our faculty and staff are unmatched, and we are so grateful for their dedication to inspiring the joy in learning for all our students. Thank you to our Parents Association volunteers for their hard work in helping give our faculty and staff their flowers!
History buffs, this post is for you! This week, our third grade students are taking us back in time with their biography presentations. This capstone project is a three-week independent-reading and research assignment that culminates with a presentation to their classmates.
On Friday, our first grade students were treated to a special Flower Mart surprise! For more than twenty years, it’s been a tradition for Beauvoir first graders to take the first ride on the vintage carousel in the days before Flower Mart opens. Students had a chance to closely inspect each of the horses, carriages, and other animals. It’s safe to say, this is a tradition we hope is “around and around” for many years to come!
Curiosity filled the Courtyard this week as our third grade students navigated the squid dissection!
This past weekend, the Beauvoir community joined together for a celebration BEYOND our wildest imagination! We are so grateful for the generosity, hard work, and dedication in making our annual scholarship benefit such a success.
Chag Pesach sameach! Wishing a Happy Passover to all who observe. Share these books with your child to learn more about this holiday.
The twenty-fourth session of Beauvoir’s Mock Congress was in session this morning! Each year, our third grade students take on the roles of legislators. Both the House of Representatives and the Senate work in committees to draft and propose legislation to present to Head of School, Cindi Gibbs-Wilborn, for her consideration. We’re so proud of our third graders for their efforts in ensuring their fellow students were heard and for their thoughtfulness and care in their work.
Over the last few months, we've been fortunate enough to have STEM experts visit Beauvoir and speak with our first through third grade students! Our Beauvoir bears have learned about space exploration, video games, viruses, microbes, and satellites!
Wishing a Happy Eid to those who celebrate! Share these books with your child to learn more about this holiday.
Just before Spring Break, our third graders treated us to "Lemonade!" Under the direction of Performing Arts teacher Erin Riley, each of the four classes staged a delightful performance of "Lemonade", which features an eclectic cast of nursery rhyme characters who learn to make lemonade out of lemons, teamwork, and kindness. A big chef's kiss goes out to their spectacular performances!
What better way to spend such a beautiful day (and Pajama Day🎉) than outside in our Courtyard with your buddy class?
Wishing a blessed Ramadan to those who celebrate. Share these books with your child to learn more about this holiday!
As we close out Black History Month, we are grateful to all our teachers and community members who contributed to elevating conversations in remembrance of important African American people and events in our history. Highlights include morning meeting shares, celebrating musicians like Ella Fitzgerald and Trombone Shorty, a performance for second grade by Mr. Okorie Johnson, and many more!
Who's excited for Mock Congress?🙋♀️ Our third grade students have been working hard to interview the rest of our Beauvoir community as they prepare to present their findings to our Head of School, Cindi Gibbs-Wilborn, later this spring. Stay tuned to see what our Class of 2024 helps pass into law!
100 morning meetings, 100 friendly greetings, 100 yummy lunchtime meals, 100 playground trips with squeals, 100 days of exploration, 100 days of education! Happy 100th Day of School!
We wish a Happy Lunar New Year to those who celebrate! Looking to learn more about this widely observed holiday? Share these books with your young reader.
As part of Beauvoir's DEIB curriculum, our third graders are exploring DC's history and culture through the study of the city’s vibrant neighborhoods. Using technology and resources gathered by their teachers, students are researching what it takes to plan a community, what makes those communities special, and how changes can be made to ensure that people are thriving in those communities. From Dupont to Anacostia, from the Wharf to Woodley Park, our students are covering all corners of the city!
Our third graders are taking a deep dive into DC history and culture, and they have different opportunities throughout the year to explore our beautiful city. One of our classes had a unique opportunity this morning! Thanks so much to SCOTUS for hosting our curious learners!
