Following the protests in Iran that erupted in late December of 2025, the Middle East witnessed a series of escalating events that nearly led to a full-scale war in the region.
Although the Western powers had previously been aligned in their response to Tehran’s policy, the strikes had been reported as surprising by EU officials.
The question thus arises: where can Europe find the leverage to count in international relations? A soon forgotten episode from the war’s earlier developments might provide an answer: drones.
