Welcome! The Educational Neuroscience Lab at American University (Washington, DC) studies science learning and curiosity. We are excited to share our passion for science education research with teachers, parents, students, and scientists.

At the heart of our work is a desire to reduce disparities among individuals typically under-represented in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) fields by conducting research that contributes to a deeper understanding of how students engage with science and mathematics.

We conduct studies using research methods from psychology, neuroscience, and education to study learning in the laboratory and in K-12 schools. And we’re now doing research online where you can participate from the comfort of your own home!

Curious about how you or your child can get involved in science education research as a participant or researcher? Check out our website for opportunities to participate in studies or join our lab: edspace.american.edu/edneurolab , or send us an email edneurolab[at]american.edu
We would love to hear from you!

The Peterson Laboratory investigates the thinking and reasoning skills that impact learning science and mathematics, and examines the role of motivations such as interest and curiosity.
